Palm Beach Social Diary

The past ten days in Palm Beach started off cold, rainy and then finally hoorah! it cleared and was sunny and beautiful! Wilbur and I had pals from New York, Jamee and Peter Gregory, down for the weekend so we were on the go, despite the rainy kick off!

First thing we headed over to “ArtPalmBeach,” an art show at the convention center in West Palm Beach with 69 dealers from all over the place.

In the evening we popped over to famed photographer Mary Hilliard’s for a “pop” then headed to Café Boulud for the Glades Academy Benefit dinner that adorable Emilia Fanjul works tirelessly on. It is dubbed “a Night of Expectations."

This soiree is a favorite of mine for dozens of reasons. First and foremost it is a very worthy cause providing support for the school. Secondly, it is really like a private party with everyone you know and love there, plus the scrumptious “Daniel” cuisine.

In between courses all kinds of goodies were gracefully auctioned off by the
beauteous Eliza Osborne from Sotheby’s including a pair of chic earrings by Fredric Beziat, a week stay at an oceanfront house, fully staffed at the fabulous Casa de Campos, a sportsman’s paradise in the Dominican Republic.

Next day we joined Karen and Richard LeFrak at the Trump International Golf Club for lunch. This first class golf course designed by Jim Fazio is a treat to play, always challenging and ranked in Golf mag’s top 100 courses in the US. We had a delightful casual lunch from the buffet and even spotted Donald Trump fresh off the course. After lunch Jamee and Peter scouted Worth Avenue for new shops for her NYSD Shopping Diary.

Saturday night we dined at Raysa and Alfy Fanjul’s dazzling waterfront house. Raysa is as beautiful as any movie star and their house more glam than any Hollywood set could dream of being. The sun-filled house sits right on the Intercoastal and is impeccably decorated plus replete with magnificent art and treasures. After about 45 minutes, just the right amount of time for cocktails, into a flawless dinner of pasta, then fish and dessert of poached pears. Perfection!

Next weekend on Friday night we went to Club Colette for a drinks party given by famed landscape designer Mario Nievera for famed interior designer Michael Smith. Mario wanted to welcome Michael as honorary chair of the Red Cross Designer Show house, so cocktails at Club Colette was the perfect solution.

I am sure you know that Smith is the Obama’s official White House decorator and also on Architectural Digest’s best 100 designers list. His other clients include Cindy Crawford, Kate Capshaw, Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, and Michelle Pfeiffer (to name a few). Michael has also penned several beautiful books such as Elements of Style with more to come.

Next day, after tennis we dropped into the Holden Luntz Gallery for coffee and a book signing by Harry Benson.  Everyone was lined up to get Harry to sign his new book, Harry Benson: Photographs with an introduction by John Loring.

That night we headed over to Mar-A-Lago for a Michael Kors fashion show with Graff jewels, by the glamorous pool under the stars. The Palm Beach Heart Ball Chairman Melania Trump and Petra Levin along with host Patrick Park graciously greeted the big crowd.

And more from PB ... The Second Annual Gratitude House Gala was held on January 16, 2010 at The Four Seasons hotel in Palm Beach. The gala evening, which was cochaired by Kim Koslow and Linda Kane and attracted 100 supporters and friends, began with a cocktail reception followed by dinner.

Karen Casey, the beloved author of many books with subjects spanning spirituality, recovery, codependency, positive thinking and meditation, gave the evening's invocation. Dr. Karen Dodge, an acclaimed addiction treatment specialist and Gratitude House alumna, shared her compelling and inspirational story.

After dinner, special guest speaker and television personality, Larry Kudlow told his personal story of recovery. Kudlow is host of CNBC's primetime "The Kudlow Report" and co-host of CNBC's "The Call." He also hosts "The Larry Kudlow Show" on WABC Radio and is the founder and CEO of Kudlow and Company, LLC, an economic research and consulting firm.

The guests then enjoyed a live cabaret performance by Broadway artist, Avery Sommers, who recently performed at Carnegie Hall and has performed numerous times at The Colony's Royal Room.

The main sponsor of the evening was the exclusive Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort in Ireland, which raffled off a one-week stay in a luxury, four-bedroom villa.

Gratitude House is a women's recovery resource in West Palm Beach that has been serving the community for more than 40 years. It is one of the only treatment programs in the country that serves pregnant women and allows women to be in treatment with their infants (MITT program- Mothers and Infants in Treatment Together).

Gratitude House's primary mission is to offer rehabilitation and support services with dignity and respect to the chemically dependent female in a nurturing, safe and caring environment, without regard for race, religion, political preference, national origin, or personal financial capacity. The goal is to return these women to society as self-sufficient, productive citizens.
