Almost 900 attended the Chicago Botanic Garden’s first spring garden party and priority shopping at the recent Antiques & Garden Fair Preview Evening. They raised almost $250,000 for the Chicago Botanic Garden’s conservation, education and research programs. Preview partygoers dined on a selection of dishes prepared by Jewel Events, as they shopped an exquisite array of antiques from more than 100 exhibitors from the United States and Europe.

The Preview Evening was co-chaired by Katherine Buehler, Tricia Hagenah and Jen Kasten.

Returning for its 11th year, the Antiques & Garden Fair featured indoor display gardens designed to fit in the theme, “Landscapes Transformed: Gardens of a New Era.” These modern gardens with great structure and form provided a backdrop for the contemporary themed Preview Evening, designed by William Heffernan Landscapes.

There was a stellar union of Houston and Galveston people at the Knights of Momus Coronation Ball at the 1984 Grand Opera House. Close to 900 black-tie and bejeweled guests reveled in the frivolity of the Arabian Knights theme. The highlight of the evening was coronation of King Frivolous XCVI, Tilman J. Fertitta, and Queen, Claire Henderson.

Just before the gala, the duchesses were feted by the Fertittas aboard their spectacular yacht, the Boardwalk, at Pier 21. The 164-foot boat was setting for several parties hosted by the Fertittas, including a brunch hosted for the Momus and past kings.

The Fertittas also hosted over 1,100 guests at the 15th annual San Luis Salute - themed Midnight in Marrakech - the most extravagant Mardi Gras celebration in Galveston. This year’s phenomenal event honored Dr. Donald S. Prough, and benefited the University of Texas Medical Branch Department of Anesthesiology.

A procession of notable members from the political arena included state senators John Whitmire and Troy Fraser, state representatives Carol Alvarado, Larry Taylor and Craig and Melissa Eiland along with Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski and Rebecca Jaworski. From medicine and academia, came UTMB’s Dr. David Callendar and Tonya Arnold, Texas A&M President Bowin Loftin and Karin Loftin, UTMB gala honoree Dr. Don Prough and Betty Prough along with a score of royals that included the entire Momus Duchess Court. Special guests of Tilman and Paige included President and CEO of Jeffries, New York, Richard Handler and his wife Martha, and Space Shuttle Commander Captain Mark Kelly.
