As summer appears to have arrived in South Florida, more than 175 guests gathered at The Colony Hotel Pavilion for a luncheon benefitting the Alzheimer's Association, named in honor of actress Rita Hayworth. The event's co-chairs Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, Hayworth's daughter, and renowned interior designer Carleton Varney thanked their steering committee for another sold-out occasion: Lee and Jeff Alderton, Gigi Benson, Laurie Bodor, Mai Hallingby Harrison, Michelle Herbert, Cheryl Jarvis, Louise Kornfeld, Susan Lloyd, Mark Locks, Patti Lowdon, Brinsley Matthews, Charlene Nederlander, Sharon Queenly, Nancy Searle, Nina Taselaer, and Kathryn Vecellio.
Linda Walls was stationed at the piano while guests perused the silent auction items. The selections included a French fauteuil chair covered in a fern silk fabric contributed by James and Jeffrey, a Venetian Mirror from Blue Moon Antiques, lamps from Heath and Co., Asian statues from the Paula Roemer's shop and a painting from Chisholm Gallery. The auction also will include jewelry, clothing, handbags, hotel stays, restaurant dinners, a football signed by Joe Namath, as well as the most in-demand item, (bidding was up to $2,900 the last time I looked at the bid sheet) four tickets to see Hamilton, donated by Jimmy and Charlene Nederlander. Because of a family emergency, fashion designer Naeem Khan was unable to attend.

"We would like to keep the event as intimate as possible," said Varney, hesitant about moving to a larger venue for next year's benefit.
