Skin rejuvenation with no downtime

Jane Scher RN BSN is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses. She has worked for many years with some of the city's top plastic surgeons at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and also with a vein specialist as his nurse injector.

"I came for my magic wand!" exclaim Jane Scher's patients when they come to see the plastic surgical nurse for Lumecca treatments. Touted by the medical industry as the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, Lumecca addresses a wide variety of skin conditions including age spots, acne, scars, melasma, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, spider veins, rosacea and freckles. "Lumecca is the gold standard in IPL," says Scher. Not only does it require fewer treatments (1-3) than other IPL therapies (4-6), but even a single session can lead to "unbelievable results" according to Scher.

Indeed, some pesky broken capillaries on my face and spider veins on my legs were quickly banished with the "magic wand."

"I use this all the time in place of sclerotherapy. I've been using this because it's so fast and it works," says Scher who was a nurse injector for a vein specialist for many years.
Lumecca uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to target and treat skin conditions through selective photothermolysis, performing a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable broadband light treatment. The treatments are as strong as a V-beam laser without any pain or downtime. The device is FDA-cleared for light and dark skin tones.

While Lumecca can be used on the legs and numerous other areas of the body including the neck, décolletage, hands and arms, it is perhaps on the face that results are most gratifying. That's because, according to Scher, it builds collagen, thereby tightening the skin and reducing wrinkles.

And that's not all. Scher's patients also love Lumecca for its ability to constrict pores and eliminate peach fuzz. "You only need about four treatments and your peach fuzz is gone," says the experienced nurse. "Plus, it cleans all the bacteria out of your skin. You never need a facial. This is a substitute for a facial. It makes your skin look bright and clear." The flawlessly complected Nicole Kidman is reportedly a fan. And now, so am I.

A few things to consider with Lumecca: avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to and post treatment. Sun block should be used for three weeks following each treatment session. Treatments with Scher cost $500 per session.
Expert tip:

Jane Scher recommends investing in a body brush in order to "dry brush your skin once a month to get rid of all the dead cells. Also, keep baby oil in the shower. Once or twice a week, after you shower, pat it all over your body while you're still wet, then towel dry it off. And, if you have time, add a body moisturizer, like Aveeno's Creamy Moisturizing Oil."
