So much news, so little time. Just wanted to catch you up on things.

THE SEARCH FOR MR. ADEQUATE
Part 69

By Susan Silver

First of all, the bathroom is really coming together. The lattice work went up and it is spectacular! It surrounds an arched mirror and then curves above the tub and I love it. And the tile is gorgeous … very peachy and cloudlike. The lacy white shower curtain is dreamy. The whole thing is so pretty that I have decided to remove the bathroom door.

Now that might seem odd, but since I live alone, who will it bother? Hmmm, you are saying … perhaps you will have sex again and he might want some privacy afterward.

Well, he can use the powder room.

No seriously, it is a small New York bathroom, folks, and I’ve spent a fortune and what good is it if the damn door blocks the whole thing. I like looking at it from my bed, where as you know I spend most of my life, day and night.

Besides, there is a wall of lattice in the bedroom, so it kind of all now flows together into a ‘little suite.’

They all come back

I always tell my girlfriends that guys come and go and then come back. They always do … for at least one more pass. Sometimes three or four, if you let them. Note: DO NOT LET THEM!

My friend, who was seeing the young guy with problems who disappeared on her, did not believe me. But sure enough, he came back. And … he didn’t even know he was in the dog house with her!

I told her to be very cool and not see him again. But she needed to do it in person, so they went to dinner. He proceeded to tell her that he was seeing ie. sleeping with ‘a few other women’ … hello? But liked her best.  Right. Sure. The guy is a real jerk.

Fortunately, on the phone she had sort of indicated it was “not working for her” and she just reiterated that. He obviously didn’t hear her as he tried to hit on her at the end of the evening, and called a few days later to ask her out. As I said, jerk!

Now there is no rule that someone has to be exclusive, but when you are sleeping with him … yeah! At least for most of us in our generation … we are not into casual ‘hooking up’ as the kids call it. One at a time, buster.

Speaking of disappearing, my CB (cute banker) disappeared and yes … came back. I don’t really know what happened but we were supposed to go to the theater a few weeks back. He called the other night and I asked him about it. He said he had a crazy week and could we do it this week. Unfortunately the show closed, but we will do something before I go to Aspen.

This is a totally different situation … as we are just friends … so far. He is allowed to come back.

The Hamptons

I spent a few days in East Hampton and it was great. It was nice, first of all, to get into a tub! I took a bath every night. (Only showers for two weeks at home.) And there was no dust and no workmen and that in itself made it wonderful.

My friends have a terrific chef which is a real treat, and the food was outstanding. I gained about four pounds. But I did a lot of walking and hit some tennis balls and so maybe it will come off . If I starve myself all week, it will. Ha!

Though my friends are older and most of their friends are married and older too, you just never know who you are going to meet that could lead to something.

We were invited out to Southhampton for a small dinner party and I sat next to the most fascinating man. He was a doctor with a very interesting life story, and married for about fifty years. His wife was lovely and they have a bunch of doctor sons. So he is going to fix me up with friends of the sons. He said he would. Maybe he will. We’ll see. But seriously, he was a delightful dinner companion and that is rare, too.

And, I learned a lesson in perseverance. This had nothing to do with dating, but it could have!

I have been looking for a pair of beige summer flats for weeks. I think I’ve gone to every shoe store in the city. I continued the search in the Hamptons.

Nothing. I found a couple that were less than adequate, and one even a little more than. But I didn’t love them. And I wanted to. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

I was about to give up and either pass totally or compromise on the almost good one ... but I thought, I’m going to try just one more store. And lo and behold there was the perfect pair! Adorable, really different but just my look … whatever that is. And though not on sale, not outrageously expensive. I got them.

So, just as in the other Search for Mr. You Know Who, I remind myself ... never give up, but never settle for anything less than The One!

Me me me

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for a profile in The New York Sun. It is a feature called Lunch at the Four Seasons. The journalist is a very international, super credentialed guy named Pranay Gupte.

We had such a fun lunch and I probably said much more than I should have of a personal nature. But he is that kind of clever interviewer.

The article comes out today and he is letting me copy it here for those of you who might not read the Sun. I think you should of course … just for his profiles.

They are a very eclectic mixture of ‘achievers’ in various walks of life in the city, and I am very complimented and happy to have been among ‘em. Though it might seem odd, amongst the politicians, the philanthropists, to find someone who it appears is just looking for dates! Hmmm. What do you think? Just go to the link below.
