Ok, cutting right to the chase … I loved the article about me in The New York Sun lunch profile, Friday June 23, but I HATED the picture. The one on the Internet site was so so … but in the actual paper … (remember those?) the light was such that I looked like my teeth and under eyes were dirty … and that I weighed about five tons. And since I was in an orange jacket, I resembled a pregnant piece of fruit . So much for getting dates from it!

THE SEARCH FOR MR. ADEQUATE
Part 70

By Susan Silver

The good news is that the bathroom is finished and quite nice. I do love it and if I ever get a camera, I’ll take a photo of it and show you. All the aggravation was worth it!

The bad news is that the mice are back. Or at least one … alas he is no longer with us if you get my drift. Sticky trapwise.

Next … I’m going to Aspen for a few weeks in July, so this will be brief as I am running around like a crazy person doing errands and packing.

My friend LL and I went to the Yankee game Monday night. One of my great friends has amazing seats and gave them to me. Six rows behind the dugout. Yankees won … and we had fun with the various guys around us.

None were The One, but we surprised ourselves in that we developed ‘baseball friendships’ with hitherto less-than- adequate types in the row in front and the row in back. None of whom we would date mind you, as beer and belching aren’t at the top of our list, though it was nice to be asked! And the young guys in front were cute.  The older guys funny.  Male energy all around. As Martha says: It’s a good thing!

CB has disappeared again.

Deb was here on her way to London and then she’s taking her parents on another cruise. Remember our little Queen Mary adventure? (Columns 24-26) I don’t believe I’ll be doing another cruise … until I am 80, but she likes them. Poor Deb is hobbling around on a broken ankle, now healed. She is using an umbrella instead of a cane. Why? We do not know.

Lizzie is gone … really. Haven’t heard from her again. This, after talking three times a day for 15 years. Sometimes, friendships, like any relationships run their course. But the comic material was good. I’ll have to find another really neurotic friend for you, Dear Readers, but then … it’s kind of nice having LL who is very normal!

Stan is traveling all over the world for business and is constantly coming down with colds. Poor baby. Though London, Paris, South of France don’t sound too shabby to me. He does not get our sympathy.

I have been given the names of a couple guys in Aspen who sound very bright and seem to know people. I am really looking forward to the change of scenery. Too much noise these days in the city, too much humidity. I’m screaming at people who blow their horns.  Time to go away!

Next week’s column will be about a real dating nightmare a friend of mine had and said it was ok to share with you. It is really funny and awful, both.

Which makes it perfect for us, doesn’t it?

I’ll be storing up good stuff (I hope) to tell you when I get back.

Have a good Fourth of July and happy month.

Bye for now … if you really really miss me, you can check the blog which I might update occasionally. Depending on how much time I have on my hands. Oh I hope it’s very little!
