September Accessories Recap

The fashion crowd hit the ground running (literally) and walking, shopping, barking and even house hunting ... all for charity in September.  All month long New Yorkers with senses of whimsy, humor and style piled on the accessories in the name of a good cause.

On Thursday, September 4th, the Elaine Turner boutique celebrated New York Fashion Week with a cocktail party benefiting the T.J. Martell Foundation, that raises funds for leukemia, cancer, and AIDS research. Many of the attendees, including T.J. Martell board member Jessica Beutler, Melanie Seymour Holland, and Elaine Turner herself, naturally wore staples from the Elaine Turner accessories collection, while fashion bloggers Ellen Flowers and Jennifer Palpallatoc and fashion entrepreneur Sallie Giordano donned colorful statement pieces.

Fashion Blogger Jennifer Palpallatoc of hauteofftherack.com wore a Loren Hope statement necklace.
Fashion Blogger Ellen Flowers of theperennialstyle.com wore dangly statement earrings by Accessory Concierge. Sallie Giordano, President of Couture Collective, a fashion collective that launched in September, accessorized with a yellow and white beaded necklace with a vintage look.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, September 7th drew thousands of participants who ran or walked to raise money for breast cancer research. Included in that group was a team representing Companions Animal Hospital of Merrick, NY. Team member and friend of the hospital, Kara Dober, who hosted a post race brunch at her apartment in Manhattan, walked the race wearing a Gucci fanny pack trimmed in breast cancer signature pink leather that she bought years ago after seeing Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw wearing a similar one in a Sex & the City episode. (Considering that SJP has been spotted twice recently wearing a black Chanel fanny pack, they may be coming back in style.)

The world renowned Animal Medical Center hosted an evening of Cocktails & Conversation for its Golden Paw Society on Tuesday, September 16th. AMC CEO Kate Coyne and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Richard Goldstein joined a panel of veterinarians to discuss the AMC’s postgraduate education program. The animal loving crowd, including guest Jess Lidsky and AMC Board Member Janet York, expressed their species and breed preferences through their accessories.

The Director’s Council of the Museum of the City of New York hosted a fashionable fete at the Giorgio Armani boutique on Thursday, September 18th. The gathering, a pre-party for the museum’s upcoming New York After Dark party, was held on the store’s roof deck overlooking Madison Avenue. Quite a few of the ladies, including Katie Tozer, Melanie Rhodes, Courtney Moss and Sallie Giordano, adorned themselves with accessories reminiscent of the mod '60s and groovy '70s that were characterized by geometric shapes, whimsical hardware, and pendant chokers. Representing opposite ends of the historical fashion spectrum was Susan Madden who paired Etruscan revival style earrings with a thoroughly modern purse.  Two other guests, Michel Cox Witmer and an anonymous woman, made statements in timeless Chanel.

Last, but certainly not lagging in style, the Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center teamed up with Elle Décor, Warburg Realty, and Parmigiani to host a cocktail party on Tuesday, September 23rd.

The event was a  celebration of the Society’s upcoming preview party for The International Fine Art & Antiques Show and was held in a fabulous townhouse for sale in the West 20s. Ladies at the event were either trending in classics like pearls, bold gold and animal print or popping with bright colors, predominantly shades of red, pink, and burgundy. Among the classicists were Sheila Lennon, Lily Hoagland, Co-chair Karen Klopp, and Elizabeth Kurpis. The colorful crowd included Society of MSKCC president Martha Glass, Lisa Larson, and Co-chair Melanie Seymour Holland, who fit in both groups with vibrant eye glasses and a wide gold cuff.
