|What do I love about Florida? The sunny weather. Flip-flops. Jupiter Island. And shopping in Palm Beach. Always on the look out for something special to buy - especially when it comes to a little treat for my two-year-old daughter, Katie - I recently popped into the ever-popular Leta Austin Foster Boutique off Worth Avenue.
The shop's namesake is a well-respected interior decorator who enjoys selling unique children's wear, stationery, and upscale home goods in her small but beautifully-merchandised store. I wish I could buy half of what I see, but a girl's got to have limits.
My single purchase this time was one of the best diaper bags I've come across as of late: a plastic-lined, small tote with pockets on the inside and the baby's monogram on the outside. The handles are long enough to go over the shoulder, which is nice when you've got to have both hands free. The tote is small, but not too small, as it can definitely pack quite a few things and the interior pockets help keep everything organized.
And I love that you don't see this bag everywhere - and even if you did, you can customize the fabric (pique! cotton gingham check! moire silk! cottons!) and colors and really make it your own. If you've got some fabric on-hand that you absolutely adore, you can even bring it to the shop and have your tote made from that material. There's another style bag, this one with rounded handles, that I like as well (mostly due to its unique shape) but I ultimately prefer the tote because it can hold a bit more stuff and it can be slung over the shoulder.
Either style makes for a terrific baby present. I bought one for my sister-in-law and I'd even like to get one for my daughter, who, while not a baby anymore, could use a cute tote to hold snacks and apple juice while at the playground, or items for the pool come summer.
Another bonus about the boutique: phone orders are a snap as the saleswomen couldn't be nicer. The shop's on my speed-dial! — Kate Allen
