The stars turned out for James Caan’s birthday at Spago in Beverly Hills the other night. The brilliant Bronx-born actor, veteran of more than 70 films, who immortalized Mario Puzo’s “Sonny” Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Godfather” trilogy, turned 65 on March 28.

Scott Steindorff, exec producer of Caan’s NBC hit series “Las Vegas” and his Stone Village Pictures partners Danny and Robin Greenspun and Andrew Molasky, hosted the party.

Besides the birthday boy (known by friends and family as Jimmy) and his wife Linda and his mother Sophie (who made her entrance after having completed 18 holes of golf after which she made a quick trip to the hairdresser), well-wishers included the star’s actor/director son, Scott Caan and brother Ronnie Caan, Sly and Jennifer Stallone, Robert Duvall, Phil Maloof, Adrienne Nassif (sister of the Maloof Brothers), Steven Bing and Josh Duhamel (a “Las Vegas” co-star) who attended with actress Dune Kossatz.

It was a love fest all around as everyone toasted the star on his new series and his brilliant career.
