Neuropathy Association's fundraising dinner at Le Cirque

The Neuropathy Association is hosted a fundraiser dinner at Le Cirque in Manhattan, two weeks ago. The sold-out event: “An Intimate Evening,” honored key individuals who have greatly supported the Association’s efforts. The Honorary Chairperson was Dolores Hope, the widow of Bob Hope, and the Masters of Ceremonies were Chuck Scarborough and Pia Lindstrom.

The star-studded event featured performances and dedications by Michelle Dawson, Tammy Grimes, Byron Janis, Lainie Kazan, Patricia Neal, and Bobby Short. Honorees were Mother Dolores Hart, O.S.B.; Bradley S. Galer, MD, Group Vice President-Scientific Affairs and Senior Medical Officer, Endo Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Terrence Tenbrunsel, Vice President of Marketing & Sales, Bayer Healthcare LLC. Mother Hart’s appearance was noteworthy to many of who remember when she was a budding Hollywood starlet in the late 1950s and early 60s, all of which she gave up to enter a convent.

Although close to 20 million Americans (an estimated 300,000 New Yorkers alone) suffer from peripheral neuropathy, a progressive, very painful and potentially crippling disorder resulting from injury to the peripheral nerves, it is given little attention, even in the medical community. Early detection and treatment is key to stopping progression of this often mis-diagnosed disorder.

Proceeds from this evening’s event will be used for the Association’s patient support and research advocacy efforts.

The Neuropathy Association is a public, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support through education and information; enhance physician, public and government awareness; encourage medical research and development; and advocate treatment access and coverage. Based in New York, The Neuropathy Association was formed in 1995 and is the leading patient resource and advocacy group in the fight against neuropathy. Its support is primarily derived from individual donations and with additional contributions from various industry sources such as Pfizer, Inc. and Bayer AG. Currently with nearly 100,000 members and over 245 self-help support groups, the Association is growing rapidly and is a vital resource for patients.
