| Ben Steinitz recently opened his new gallery in a 19th century hotel particulier, located at 77, rue Faubourg Saint Honore, directly across the street from The Bristol Hotel. Ben learned about the trade at the knee of his legendary father, Bernard, who is considered among the top antiquaries in the world. The apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree, as they say. With the establishment of this new gallery, Ben has taken on the mantle with great aplomb, paying tribute to his father, while letting his own imagination run free to create one of the most spectacular galleries in Paris. Here you will find objects from the Middle Ages side by side with the 20th century and presented with Steinitz’s unique flair for drama and spectacle. Blending materials such as leather, mirrors, carved wood boiserie, painted wallpaper, and beaded tapestries from Europe and the Far East, each room combines furniture and decorative objects from the 17th through 20th centuries. Steinitz will be in New York for the International Fine Art & Antique Dealers Show as well as in San Francisco Fall Antiques Show this month. Among the guests who stopped by the opening on the rue Faubourg Saint Honore were Hubert de Givenchy, Hubert Hermes, Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Rosenberg, Jules Brassner and San K.J. Lee, Philippe Venet, Pierre-Xavier Hans and Jorg Ebeling, Kathy and Billy Rayner, Jean and Edgar Zorbibe, Mrs. Henri Gradis, Frank diBiasi, Mr. and Mrs. Michel Degroux, Eric Jansen, Daniel Alcouffe, Adrien Meyer, Marilyn White, Christophe de Carpentrie, Sylvia Beder, and Christian Prevost Marcilhacy. |

| Carnegie Hall opened its 119th season with a sold out gala benefit concert featuring conductor Daniele Gatti and the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. The program included the New York premiere of John Williams’ On Willows and Birches, for harp and orchestra, with BSO principal harpist Ann Hobson Pilot as featured soloist. Mr. Williams wrote this piece to honor Ms. Pilot who is retiring after a 40-year career with the orchestra. Also on the program: Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor with pianist Evgeny Kissin — as a prelude to the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth in 2010 — as well as Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and Debussy’s La mer. |
