 Partnerships and patrons

The Inaugural IRENE DIAMOND AWARD GALA at Jazz at Lincoln Center. |
Last Thursday night, to celebrate their new partnership, veteran antiques dealers, Guy Regal, of Guy Regal Ltd. and Lewis Baer of Newel opened their three story townhouse at 223 East 60th Street last night for a cocktail party and exhibition “Neoclassicism: Discoveries from the 18th through 20th Centuries” which spanned the entire three floors of the gallery.
Among the guests: Geoffrey Bradfield and Roric Tobin, Mark Gilbertson, Vanessa Noel, Doug Steinbrecht, Todd Gribben, Harry Heisseman, Philip Gorrivan, Michelle and Joseph Safra, Julie and Lucie Danenberg, Veranda’s Carolyne Englefield, Julie Noran, House Beautiful’s Stephen Drucker, Bergdorf Goodman’s visual designer extraordinaire Linda Fargo, photographer Nathaniel Kramer and Merrie Harris, Adam Greenberger, Miguel Flores-Vianna, Neil Edwards, Marilyn White. The hors d’oeuvres menu from Swifty’s catering included crab cakes and carmelized bacon.
This partnership marks an innovative and creative turn in the antiques industry whereby two important dealers combine and edit their spectacular inventories and present them in a gallery setting. The breadth and scope of Newel’s expansive inventory warehoused on six floors at 425 East 53rd Street combined with Regal’s ability to curate and display these antiques, art, furniture and objects in creative and artful vignettes is what forged this relationship.
According to Mr. Baer, “Finding the hidden treasures in my inventory and combining them with Guy’s to create a powerful presentation in any given period of decorative arts is exactly what we had in mind when we decided to join forces under one roof.” |

| More from last Thursday ... Jazz at Lincoln Center held its Inaugural Irene Diamond Award Gala. Mrs. Diamond, who died six years ago at the age of 92, with her late husband Aaron Diamond, a real estate developer, created a foundation in their lifetime that became the Irene Diamond Fund. |
 |
| Dr. Theodora Hatziioannou, Dr. David Ho, Walter Wang, George Shaw, and Beatrice Hahn |
Over a period of little more than a decade the Fund along with the Aaron Diamond Foundation distributed more than $220 million in about 700 donations including $50 earmarked for AIDS.
From her own fund Mrs. Diamond made major gifts to Jazz at Lincoln Center, the New York City Ballet, the Dance Theater of Harlem and the New York Public Library. President Clinton recognized her philanthropy in 1999 with the National Medal of Honor. |
