A sweet moment for all of us

Blessing of The Animals hosted by the ASPCA and Cindy Adams.
Early Sunday evening at six at Christ Church on 520 Park Avenue, the ASPCA with NY Post columnist Cindy Adams hosted “Blessing of the Animals.” This was an event for everyone and their beloved pets – be they furry, feathered or finned. A sweet moment for all of us, and a reminder that the soul is warmed by the love, loyalty and devotion of these sweet companions.

Last Wednesday night at the Metropolitan Club, Save Venice hosted a festive holiday event with entertainment provided by John Julius Norwich and his Christmas Crackers. Viscount Norwich played the piano and sang to the delight of everyone.

As he explained, “Christmas Crackers” “are nothing to do with Christmas – or, for that matter, with Crackers, at least in the American sense of the word. They are merely little fragments of poetry or prose that I have been collecting for the past half-century.
“Sometimes I’ve kept them because they move me to tears, sometimes because they make me howl with laughter, but always because they have something about them that makes them worth keeping.”
Décor by Antony Todd
Viscount Norwich publishes these albums every ten years in hardback. The fourth volume (2000-2009) will be published next year. In England he performs for one week at a small London theater, with a few songs at the piano “to add to the variety.” The Save Venice members and their guests were treated to one of these performances last Wednesday night.

This past Sunday at the Plaza Hotel, New York State and Film honored Julianna Margulies and producer Marc Platt for their “extraordinary achievements” in theater, film and television. This was the 25th annual gala for Stage and Film.

Founded in 1985 by producing directors Mark Linn-Baker, Max Mayer, and Leslie Urdang, and now under the leadership of artistic director Johanna Pfaelzer and managing director Nicki Genovese, New York Stage and Film (SAF) is dedicated to both emerging and established artists in the development and production of new works for theater and film.

Vassar College and NY SAF collaborate eachsummer to present the Powerhouse Theater Program. Sunday night’s gala helps support this program.
