Mid-Winters Eve

Young New Yorkers of the Philharmonic Chairmen: Keith Connor, Georgina Schaeffer, Adrian Ulrich, Penn Egbert, Blair Metrailler, and Chris George
Two weeks ago the Young New Yorkers of the Philharmonic held their winter benefit, a Mid-Winters Eve. The evening began with a private concert by Musicians of the New York Philharmonic, which was followed by cocktails, dinner and dancing. 200 attended the concert and then 270 attended the dinner dance.

The Young New Yorkers comprise people ages 21-40 who appreciate and support symphonic music. The organization now has 4500 members. Members can enjoy unique opportunities to attend concerts as well as social and educational events in the company of friends as well as support one of the city’s most valuable cultural resources.

This year’s benefit raised $93,000. The evening was made possible by generous support from Brooks Brothers.

Each year at the Celebration of Philanthropy dinner dance, the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties recognizes the significance of philanthropy in improving the lives of the people of Palm Beach and Martin counties. This year’s dinner dance, which was held in early February at Club Colette, honored the philanthropist in all of us, signifying the importance of every contribution at a time when philanthropy is more important than ever.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter I. C. Knowles, II and Mr. and Mrs. William M. Matthews together served as event Chairs. Joining them were Next Generation Committee Chairmen Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. Macfarland, III.  Northern Trust served as Grand Benefactor for the celebration and scholarship program.
The proceeds of the Celebration of Philanthropy will benefit the Community Foundation’s scholarship program, providing seed capital for the educational dreams of many students from Palm Beach and Martin counties. Since 1983, the Community Foundation has provided more than $5.1 million in scholarships to over 1,300 students.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties improves communities through the power of philanthropy. Since 1972, The Community Foundation has granted over $81 million to the community. The Foundation accepts contributions in support of community initiatives, special projects and permanent endowment. Income from endowment is used to make grants and award scholarships primarily in Palm Beach and Martin counties.
