Famous already as a one-night-only performance of short plays on LOVE to benefit the non-profit WET Productions, LOVE welcomed the cast of 2010 and special guests Lynda Obst and Maria Zuckerman who took the stage to support WET's 2010 Season. The performances, made up of short plays on the subject of LOVE, featured material written by some of the country’s most recognized and up and coming female writers and performed by a group of the industry’s most talented and celebrated actors.
With the likes of Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married), Ron Livingston (Sex and the City), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Rachel Dratch (SNL), Hamish Linklater (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Mamie Gummer (Taking Woodstock), Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein), Carla Gugino (Watchmen), Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock), Glennis McMurray (I Eat Pandas) and directed by Abby Epstein (The Business of Being Born), the evening raised vital funds for WET Films, the newest division of WET launching this year and WET's Risk Takers Series, the unique leadership and media-literacy program for NYC teenage girls.
Once again LOVE returned to the Angel Orensanz Foundation on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. WET’s Co-Founders Sasha Eden and Victoria Pettibone hosted the evening featuring: the awards presentation, performance and gala complete with open bar, and hors d’oeuvres sponsored by various New York City restaurants and celebrity DJ, DJ Mr. BLUE.
The LOVE Benefit also brought numerous socially responsible companies together to support WET's cause. The outpouring of support made this benefit joyous and abundant. Many notable New Yorkers were on hand to raise money for the foster care agency, including Chris Rock, Erica and L.A. Reid, Calvin Klein, Veronica Webb, Jane Holzer, Jeff and Justine Koons, Chuck Close, Ross Bleckner, Romero Britto, Elizabeth Shiell Fekkai, Brent Nicklas, Michelle Russell Johnson, Lavinia Branca Snyder, Francesco Clemente, Donald Baechler, Henry Buhl, Jennifer Levin, Debra Wasser, Andy Sabin, Lydia and George Weiss.
ARTrageous was founded by Linda Argila and has raised over $15 million for Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families (EGSCF). For more than 75 years, this nonprofit organization has been nurturing thousands of disadvantaged children and teens living in foster care in New York City. They are victims of child abuse, domestic violence, neglect or abandonment. Through a wide range of services and programs, EGSCF has changed the lives of generations of children and families with love, safety and permanent homes.
May is National Foster Care Month and ARTrageous is the only major event in New York City to raise awareness and money to address this urgent issue. More than 17,000 children reside in foster care in New York because their parents are unable to care for them adequately. |
