 Uptown and downtown

This past Monday night, as is his wont at this time of the year, Euan Rellie assembled a list of what he calls an A-Z of fashion, 120 in all, media and socials, at the Park Avenue Tavern for dinner to celebrate his wife Lucy's birthday. From Alina Cho, Amanda Ross, and Amy Sacco, to Gretchen Mol, Hamish Bowles, India Hicks and Ivana Lowell, to Peter Som and Prabal Gurung, to Mary Alice Stephenson, Meredith Melling Burke, Steven Alan and Zandy Forbes.
Uptown and downtown ("and New Jersey too", said Gilt Man Editorial Director Tyler Thoreson) had congregated together at this “hot new drinking den,” close to Grand Central.
Lucy, who you may know is a stylist and children's clothes designer. She launched her own line. Her husband is a "semi-reformed investment banker,” although you’ll have to ask him precisely what that means. They've clearly picked up some friends along the way. |

An array of pregnant women were in attendance. "That hasn’t stopped Gretchen (Mol) taking her clothes off on Boardwalk Empire once a week" noted the host. Ms. Mol compared bumps with Sarah Ruffin Costello and Claude Davies, all looking forward to another round of maternity.
Euan stood on a chair to tell the crowd that his wife was "reliably unpredictable," not "level headed" like him, and that's why he had "never once regretted marrying her." Lucy replied that she liked the look of "handsome Firefighter Eugene Brennan," one of the restaurant's co-owners, who "would definitely have made an excellent husband," had she not married "the love of my life, my darling hubby Euan."
Lucy called it "the 40th birthday party I never had," a statement which her husband described as "a bit melodramatic, considering she's only 41."

DJ Liam McMullan played old school, mellow hip hop beats. Six or seven latecomers, slightly grumpy at being denied a table, left for dinner elsewhere, while Amy Sacco nostalgically reminded Meredith Melling Burke and Malcolm Carfrae, happily ensconced with cocktails and Hamburgers at the bar, of Lucy's birthdays in years gone by, "when all the champagne glasses got broken."
Prabal Gurung, Mickey Boardman, Anneliese Peterson and Maggie Betts formed their own "children's table" — or "VIP section," opinions differed — off the main dining room.
Someone asked one of the more senior guests, Fran Breuer, how she fit in.
"Oh, I taught Heathcliff and Titus Rellie at nursery school, but what I really like is all this scurrilous fashion gossip." |

This past Monday night NYU's Tisch School of the Arts honored actor Billy Crystal (BFA '70) with the Steuben Big Apple award at its annual "The Face of Tisch" gala.
"I was a lousy student," Crystal told the audience. "I have so many overdue library books. If you knew, you wouldn't be giving me this award."
Two of Crystal’s friends, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg, gave testimonials of their famous friend. |

"I want to say thank you so much to Billy Crystal; he's always been my friend," Williams said. "No, he isn't just a friend, he's my conscience. He's always the one telling me not to do the last two jokes."
"There is this one thing you have to know about Billy," Goldberg said. "You see, he's very easygoing, he laughs and jokes. But you don't want to piss him off. He turns into the Hulk."

On November 30th, 2010 More than 100 young philanthropists kicked off Chanukah at an 80’s throwback party downtown at the famous Don Hill’s with a special performance by 80s cover band Rubix Cube. B.i.G, (Build Hope. Inspire Change. Give Love.) is a new giving circle within UJA-Federation that recognizes the generosity of New Yorkers, in their 30s and 40s, who support the organization with a gift to our annual campaign.
This year at the Chanukah Party, B.i.G. celebrated the 20th anniversary of Operation Exodus, the federation movement that raised nearly $1 billion to bring 1 million Soviet Jews and help them resettle in Israel and North America. |
