Honorary Chairs for the IHAD Spring Gala: Matthew Goldstein, Colorado State Senator Mike Johnston, United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, Arthur Levine, Kenneth D. Merin, Margaret Spellings, and Former United States Senator Harris Wofford. Warren Eisenberg, Jeffrey Fromm, Jeffrey Gural, and J. Ronald Terwilliger served as Co-Chairs.

Since its founding in 1981, the “I Have A Dream” Foundation has worked to change a critical reality: in our nation today, only 10% of students in low-income communities are expected to earn a college degree. The “I Have A Dream” Foundation vision is that one day, every student in every neighborhood will have the opportunity to achieve higher education and capitalize fully on their talents and passions. “I Have A Dream” Foundation has impacted the lives of more than 14,000 students in urban and rural communities, sponsoring entire cohorts of students from elementary school through high school.

Upon graduation, each ‘Dreamer’ receives guaranteed tuition assistance for higher education. Today, more than 3,000 Dreamers are working their way to college in 17 states, Washington, D.C., and New Zealand, following the 11,000 alumni who came before them. In many sites, Dreamers are graduating from high school at twice or even triple the rate of their peers. Many Dreamers will be the first in their families to earn a college degree.

As “I Have A Dream” Foundation looks to the future, it is building on its legacy to launch an ambitious new model to work with some of the nation’s top school reformers to enable many more students to reach and graduate from college on a large and sustainable scale. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s 2011 New York Tribute Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental honored Elizabeth and Oliver Stanton for their support of the Museum for more than a decade, including serving as lead sponsors of the Museum’s Voices on Antisemitism podcast series. Hannah Rosenthal, the U.S. State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism was the keynote speaker. NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander was the event moderator.

“The Museum seeks not only to educate people, especially youth, about the past, but to inspire them to prevent such events from reoccurring,” says Museum Chairman Tom A. Bernstein. “Crucial to this effort are programs like Voices on Antisemitism which invites a range of individuals to reflect on the dangers of hate today. The Stantons’ exceptional generosity has enabled us to reach students, educators, and many others nationwide.”
