 LA Dinner Parties and Hamptons Hoedowns

Last Wednesday night in Los Angeles, at his house way up at the top of Sunset Plaza Drive, overlooking the city, Alex Hitz gave a buffet dinner for about a hundred guests. Mr. Hitz is putting the finishing touches on his “My Beverly Hills Kitchen: Uptown, Down Home Comfort Food for a Crowd.” Knopf is the publisher and Shelley Wanger is editor. Wednesday night’s guests were got a preview of some of the recipes in this former restaurateur’s treasure chest.
The menu: Pimiento Cheese Rounds, Bacon Wrapped Dates; Fried Chicken, Marinated Shrimp with dill, Cold Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Sauce; Squash Casserole, Tomato Pie with Basil, Broccoli Slaw with chives and parsley; Corn Cucumber Salad with Cilantro, with Biscuits. And for dessert: Brownies, Lemon Squares, Pecan Bars, Almond Raspberry White Chocolate Bars, and Sand Tarts. |

| Last Monday night in East Hampton, Caitlin and John Tashjian hosted their 5th annual Hamptons Hoedown to celebrate Mrs. Tashjian's 40th birthday. Guests wore their best Western hoedown duds. There were dueling mechanical bulls for the annual “bull riding championship.” This isn’t as easy as it looks although it was won by a native Texan, Liv Odegard who came to the party already equipped with her Lone Star State riding skills. |

| They played beer pong (don’t ask, I haven’t a clue) and dined and danced under a tent decorated with red, white and blue lanterns. Barbecue pit-master Rich Chinitz supplied the pulled pork barbecue, ribs, smoked sausages and fried chicken. After serving the “beach-themed” cake (sandless) for the birthday girl, Mr. Tash moved to the turntables where he spun the tunes for the dancing. |
