This past Tuesday night at the American Museum of Natural History on Central Park West and 79th Street, the Junior Council kicked off its 2011-2012 season with a private screening of Tornado Alley and a cocktail reception.
Narrated by Bill Paxton (Twister, Titanic), the 43-minute film follows two teams on separate missions to witness the birth of a tornado and gain new insights into these extraordinary and cruel forces of nature.
Storm Chasers star Sean Casey and is crew capture the first up-close images of a tornado, while scientists of VORTEX2, the largest tornado-research project ever assembled, work to understand exactly how tornados form in order to predict where they will strike, to provide better warnings to those at risk.

Last Tuesday, the Independent Collective (TIC) launched its IndieGoGo film funding campaign with a star-studded evening at a private residence at Cobblestone Lofts in Tribeca, New York.
Hosted by Katherine Crockett and Daphne Rubin-Vega, the evening raised funds to complete TIC’s first feature film – Tiny Dancer – which stars Crockett and Rubin-Vega. The evening was attended by industry professionals and notables, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Kerry Butler, Lucy Devito, Khrystyne Haje, Josh Hamilton, Thomas McCarthy and Zak Orth. (You never heard of ‘em?!)
During the evening, they screened a featurrette from Tiny Dancer, shot earlier this year throughout Brooklyn and New York City. |

The film is co-directed by Jayce Bartok and Tiffany Bartok. It tells the story of a legendary principal dancer (Crockett) who, after having her baby, finds that she is unable to suppress her desire to dance, despite the warnings of her best friend (Rubin-Vega).
The Independent Collective (TIC), an organization committed to funding artistic projects by individuals who desire to see a project come to life, is currently crowd funding for the film Tiny Dancer by scribe Jayce Bartok. Tiny Dancer is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization. Contributions on behalf of Tiny Dancer must be made payable to the New York Foundation for the Arts, and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. |

Last Thursday, a week, Thomson Reuters hosted a luncheon at the headquarters at 3 Times Square in celebration of Glenda Bailey and the launch of her new book, Harper’s Bazaar: Greatest Hits. The event brought out many of the stars of the fashion world including Tory Burch, Ralph Rucci, Harold Koda, Amy Fine Collins, Diane von Furstenberg, etc.
Harper’s Bazaar: Greatest Hits is a lush art book (Abrams; September 2011) highlighting the inspiring and entertaining vision of editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey and creative director Stephen Gan. The book is filled with breathtaking images from Harper’s Bazaar by the most passionate photographers of the day.
The book chronicles some of the magazine’s most memorable moments from 2001 to 2011, through a collection of more than 300 powerful images: Agyness Deyn pays tribute to Michael Jackson, shot by Terry Richardson; Marc Jacobs, Donatella Versace and Alber Elbaz join Marge Simpson in Paris on an illustrated trip to Couture; Karl Lagerfeld photographs Courtney Love, wearing next to nothing and doing penance for sporting fake Chanel; Sarah Jessica Parker channels Diana Vreeland for Peter Lindbergh.
