 Autumn in the Park
 |
Dinner under the tent at the Central Park Conservancy's Autumn in the Park. |
| Last Thursday night, in a big tent set up next to the old Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park, the Central Park Conservancy held a fund-raising dinner dance, Autumn in the Park. The occasion was the first of its kind for the Conservancy which at this time of year usually staged a Halloween costume party. So it's out with the old and in with the older. People loved it. The décor was provided by Bronson van Wyck and it was sensationally autumnal, inside and out (the tent had a transparent roof). They raised over a million dollars for the maintenance of the Park and the Starlite Orchestra had just about everyone in the tent on the dance floor boogeying the night away. Nice night it was too. |

Girls Learn International held its Educate a Girl, Empower a Woman Luncheon at the University Club last Monday November 7, 2011. GLI is a non-profit service learning initiative designed to combat the global crisis in girls' education by giving American students the skills, confidence, and knowledge to help develop solutions and advocate for sustainable social change. Student leaders and faculty advisors use the GLI program to learn about girls' human rights and the obstacles girls face around the world in attending school.
GLI pairs middle and high school Chapters in the US with Partner Schools in countries where girls still lag behind boys in school attendance and are discouraged or precluded from completing their educations. Through communications and student exchange projects, Chapters and Partner Schools learn about each other and share their ideas about human rights, their dreams and their hopes for their futures. Each year, GLI Chapters raise money for their Partner Schools to support girls' education projects. |

Last Thursday night at the Guggenheim, 430 dinner guests along with more than 800 joining in the after-party, attended the 2011 Guggenheim International Gala. The museum celebrated the new exhibition Maurizio Cattelan: All in which 128 of the artist's work are suspended from the center of the Guggenheim's rotunda.
If you're wondering how they pulled that off, dinner was served on tables carefully balanced on white carpeted platforms on the ramps. |

A gift to all Gala guests was PonyTailGirl Matchbox, a commissioned work by artist Mika Rottenberg, who is represented in the museum's collection and also joined in the festivities to fête Maurizio at the museum's most prominent annual benefit.
At 9:30 pm doors opened for after with MGMT indie rock band transforming the Guggenheim's rotunda into performance venue with LED lighting installed on ramps. |
