On Thursday, April 5, 2012, East Side House Settlement hosted the 13th Annual Gala Preview of the 2012 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Center. More than 1,300 guests from the finance, fashion, arts, sports, and society spheres enjoyed a private viewing of the entire auto show before it officially opened to the public. The Gala Preview included cocktails, a private dinner for benefactors and a specially curated display of several new 2012 Fiat 500 models, including the limited production Fiat 500 Abarth. During dinner, Christie’s auctioneer Lydia Fenet auctioned off this “small but wicked” performance car, along with a “Best of Italy Tour” from Indagare.com, and several other once-in-a-lifetime packages. The Gala Preview was chaired by Philip L. Yang, Joan P. Young, Chris LaSusa, and Elia Zois, and the benefit committee was chaired by Fe Fendi and Mariana Zois. The media sponsor was New York magazine.

On Wednesday evening, the inaugural New York Twentieth Century Art and Design Fair, showcasing 36 top-tier international 1stdibs dealers kicked-off with a Designers Forum, an exclusive early-buying preview party for interior designers and their clients at the Tent in Lincoln Center in Damrosch Park. NYC20 is the brainchild of Rosemary Krieger, who teamed up with Michael Bruno, founder of the wildly successful 1stdibs on line luxury market place. This preview, sponsored by "Art+Auction Magazine", gave designers the all-important opportunity to get 1stdibs on all the goods before anyone else.

And then last night, NYC20 opened their doors to over a thousand guests, making it one of the most successful fair openings in recent years. We're living in age where everything old is new again and what the dealers offered was testament to how timely the furniture from the early to mid-20th century looks now. And with "Mad Men" all the rage these days, the look is even more popular. Both previews evenings, co-chaired by Michael Bruno, Brad Ford, Julie Hillman and David Mann, benefited the Bard Graduate Center of Decorative Arts: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture. Seen in the crowd were Susan Weber, Michael Bruno, Julie Hillman, David Mann, Stacy McLaughlin, Liz O'Brien, James Andrew, Stephen Beale, Katy Kane, Ernest de la Torre, Marilyn White, Rosemary Krieger, Gordon Merkle, Paul Donzella, Gerard O' Brien, Jonathan Goldstein, Vyna St. Phard, Wendy Buckley, Ed Koren, Andy Karp, Serena Tufo, Stuart Cohen, Arlie Sulka, Charlotte Watson, Craig Warfield, Joshua and Kimberly Sutton, Kathy Murphy, John Deslauriers and Blair Douglas, Bob Lawton, Brady Miller, Stephen and Joyce, Gerardus Widdershoven, Benoist Drut, Carmela Rea, and Cassandra Krelik.
