Summer soirees and Hamptons happenings

A President’s Committee Reception in anticipation of the Southampton Hospital’s 54th annual Summer Party.
Last Wednesday night at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, the American Friends of the Paris Opera Ballet hosted a Summer Soiree to benefit the company. The evening began with a cocktail reception followed by the performance (see NYSD 7.12.12). This was the first time in sixteen years that the Paris Opera Ballet has performed at Lincoln Center. And it was a sensation.

This past Saturday in Shubert Alley between 44th and 45th Streets (and Broadway and Eighth Avenue), Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters hosted the 14th annual “Broadway Barks.”

It was a very hot day (as usual) but nevertheless, like real troupers for our devoted furry friends, many Broadway stars came out to help Moore and Peters in this annual pet adopt-a-thon. Among those participating were Joel Grey (Anything Goes),  Rita Moreno, Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald (both in Porgy & Bess); Bebe Neuwirth, Megan Hilty, Ben Vereen; Andrew Rannells (Book of Mormon); Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher); Tracie Bennett (End of the Rainbow); Michael Cerveris (Evita); Rory O’Malley; Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur); Angela Lansbury (The Best Man); Linda Lavin (The Lyons); Jeremy Jordan (Newsies).

The event benefits animal shelters and pet adoption agencies here in New York. It also benefits the little beauties out there in need of loving homes.

Out in the Hamptons. There were scores of parties over the weekend, including the Parrish Museum’s big annual Midsummer Party. More about that later this week.

At a private residence in Southampton, there was a President’s Committee Reception on Saturday in anticipation of the Southampton Hospital’s annual Summer Party. This year’s is the 54th. Graff will be the main sponsor and Alex Donner and his orchestra will keep the dancers dancing. This annual benefit has played a big part over the years in making Southampton Hospital – the only hospital in the Hamptons – a major healthcare center in the East End of Long Island.

The Previous Thursday night, ARTHAMPTONS hosted a VIP Opening Night Reception at the Sculpture Fields at Nova’s Ark in Bridgehampton. The honoree of the weekend’s art fair was Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong), who is one of the world’s foremost collectors of Chicano art. This year Cheech was named Arts Patron of the Year (he also celebrated his birthday – 66th) on Friday. Collecting Chicano art since the mid-1980s, Cheech decided it was time to bring it (for the first time) to the Hamptons.
