The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons celebrated the Hamptons summer season with its annual GET WILD Summer Gala on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Dune Beach in Southampton. The event, chaired by Beth Ostrosky Stern, Christopher Obetz and Ellen Scarborough, celebrated the rehabilitation and successful release of Long Island's native wildlife. Guests in attendance included Beth Ostrosky Stern, Ellen and Chuck Scarborough, Ginnieand Augie Frati, Avis Richards, Leslie Alexander, Christopher and Joni Fischer, Josh Guberman, Jean and Martin Shafiroff, Robert Albertson and Suzanne Murphy, Howard Lorber, Samantha Kleinfield, Ellen and Dr. Jan Linhart, D.D.S, Dr. Tara Allmen, M.D., and Paul Schindler. Friends, family and supporters of The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons gathered for a seaside clambake and cocktails with musical entertainment by Jetty Four. Also in attendance were furry and feathered friends including, Blossom the opossum, Sonja the red tailed hawk, Kaylala the great horned owl and Cutie Pie the screech owl. Executive Director and Founder of the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, Ginnie Frati, thanked guests “for their generous support and contributions.” “With your donations we can better maintain our medical equipment, get the best veterinary care, and gather skills and training to increase our success rate. We are able to offer state-of-the-art care to our wild neighbors that so richly deserve it because they are usually injured by human activities,” said Frati.

The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons is a nonprofit wildlife hospital dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured, sick and orphaned wild animals in order to return them to their natural habitat. The Center is a full-time professional wildlife hospital staffed by veterinarians, licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists and volunteers. The Center also provides educational programs to local elementary and secondary schools, and invites students from local colleges participate in cooperative education programs and internships. A grassroots organization, the Center has grown from a few concerned friends to a group of more than 1,000 members and supporters, and receives more than 10,000 requests for information or assistance each year. Located in a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem, the facility consists of salt and fresh water wetlands, pine barrens, deciduous forest and meadowland. The Shakespeare in the Park production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved musical INTO THE WOODS opened this past Thursday at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The show has been such an immediate success that the Public Theater’s Artistic Director Oskar Eustis has announced that they will “spend an additional week in the woods with this amazing cast. Directed by Timothy Sheader with co-direction by Liam Steel, INTO THE WOODS, originally scheduled to close on Saturday, August 25 will run for one final week through Saturday, September 1.

The Public Theater will offer a special family-friendly matinee of INTO THE WOODS on Wednesday, August 22 at 3 p.m. This matinee is designed to engage younger audiences and to serve families unable to attend evening performances. The 95-minute production will comprise act one only. There will still be an 8 p.m. evening performance on August 22. Tickets to the special family-friendly matinee will be distributed for FREE primarily through the Virtual Ticketing lottery (www.shakespeareinthepark.org/matinee [3]), with a limited number of tickets available through a stand-by line on the day of the performance. Literary luminaries and book-lovers came out in force to support the East Hampton Library's 8th Annual Authors Night benefit on Saturday, August 11th  at the Gardiner Farm in East Hampton. Authors Night Founding Co-Chairs Alec Baldwin and Barbara Goldsmith, and Honorary Co-Chairs Ken Auletta, David Baldacci, Robert A. Caro, Dick Cavett, Lynn Sherr, and Dava Sobel were joined by more than 120 authors who signed their newest books for the enthusiastic throng of 1,500 event attendees. This year's event raised more than $200,000 for the East Hampton Library. East Hampton Library Director Dennis Fabiszak stated, “This year’s roster of participants featured more New York Times bestselling writers than ever before. More than 2,500 books were sold at the event, translating to a record-breaking $40,000 in book sales over last year’s $30,000 amount.

Last weekend in the Hamptons they held a kick-off for the Amy Winehouse Foundation GALA. People trekked from the City so were in a fine mood to party, talk and listen to great music. And, that's what they got. Over 200 guests were at board member David Hryck's house in Southampton, under the stars and under a tent (just in case!), everyone mingled in fine form.  Amy's parents, Janis and Mitch Winehouse, and their respective spouses Richard and Jane, were visiting from England.  Board members Monte Lipman and Alan Serrins journeyed from the City along with Executive Director Julie Muraco. Among the crowd of "faces" were Cheri Kaufman, Rod and Judy Gilbert, PR guru Catherine Saxton, financiers Patrick J. Harvey and Eric Goldberg, Fruzen Ice creator Hana Bisceglie, Trenton Harrison-Lewis, the irrepressible Dr. Ruth Westheimer, and famed pop singer Taja Sevelle, who has also co-founded URBAN FARMING, with the goal of creating 100 Million people to plant and register their gardens as a part of the "Urban Farming Global Food Chain.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation INSPIRATION AWARDS Gala takes place at the Waldorf Hotel on October 11th. The Gala will honor three music legends, Tony Bennett, who won the Grammy Award for his duet with Amy. Salaam Remi, hip hop producer and keyboard player as well as current favorite Nas, who recently released his latest chart topping album Life Is Good featuring Amy Winehouse.

UJA-Federation of New York's Manhattan Women's Philanthropy held its seventh annual Hamptons Trunk Show on August 2nd at the Bridgehampton Historical Society with 600 people in attendance, and $450,000 worth of merchandise was sold. Twenty percent of the proceeds of all sales at the trunk show benefit UJA-Federation of New York.

The Hamptons Trunk Show, a day filled with shopping, music, and refreshments in an elegantly tented outdoor space, has become a must-attend summer Hamptons event.   Under the leadership of event chair Ramy Sharp and vice chairs Jill Bikoff, Stacey Kaye Bronfman, Harriet Croman, Jamie Mitchell, Sara Pilot, Joyce Scharfer, and Jennifer Gardner Trulson, the Hamptons Trunk Show helps UJA-Federation continue doing what the organization does best: caring for people in need, inspiring a passion for Jewish life and learning, and strengthening Jewish communities.

The event also included a signing by Dr. Neil Sadick of his book "The New Natural: Your Ultimate Guide to Cutting-Edge Age Reversal," and featured a $500 Lester's gift certificate as a door prize.   UJA-Federation of New York's Manhattan Women's Philanthropy will hold its Manhattan Holiday Trunk Show on November 6, 2012 at its headquarters at 130 East 59th Street in Manhattan from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
