The objective was finding a way for the homeless in the area to find work and shelter. One of A.C.E.’s first inititatives was a solution to that problem: SoHo & TriBeCa Partnerships, which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help recovering homeless adults obtain the essential skills needed to successfully re-enter the workforce and achieve long term, economic self-sufficiency.
The evening included cocktails and dinner; featured a musical performance by the Bahia Arts Brazilian troupe., ABC Radio talk show host Curtis Sliwa was emcee and special friend of A.C.E., Taye Diggs also lent his support for the evening. Sotheby’s Jamie Niven conducted the auction. A selection of "highlights from The Buhl Collection" were displayed in the gallery. All proceeds will benefit A.C.E. and its initiatives, the SoHo and TriBeCa Partnerships. |

| Julie Christie turned out for the premiere of her latest Away From Her at the most recent Cinema Society screening. And more than a few of the glitterati turned out for a glimpse of Ms. Christie who aroused the curiosity of even the most jaded Manhattan film-goers of privilege. Julie Christie. Dazzling. There is already Oscar buzz building for this performance for the star playing a victim of Alzheimer’s in a portrayal of a long marriage weathering the effects. It is a story about love and strength and hope. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the lights came up.
The much-acclaimed film, directed by Sarah Polley, also stars Gordon Pinsent, Michael Murphy and Olympia Dukakis. They were all on hand for the screening at the IFC Center, as well the star-studded after party which followed at the Soho Grand Hotel. The Wall Street Journal sponsored the evening. And there was a starry crowd for the whole evening organized by Cinema Society’s creator. Such as: Debra Messing, Candice Bergen, Rosemary Harris, Sandra Bernhard, Kim Cattrall, Ugly Betty star Eric Mabius, Camryn Manheim, Griffin Dunne, Lili Taylor, Michael Sheen (The Queen), Ricki Lake, Dick Cavett, Debbie Harry, Stella Keitel, Robert Iler (The Sopranos), Janel Maloney (West Wing), Zuleikha Robinson (The Namesake, Rome), Troy Garity, William Sadler, Ben Shenkman, Amy Sacco, Rachel Roy, Frederique Van Der Wal, Judy Licht, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Daniel Benedict, Vogue’s Sally Singer, Tiffany Dubin, Bettina Zilkha, Lionsgate’s Sarah Greenberg, and the Wall Street Journal’s Gordon Crovitz and Andrea Norlander. |
