This past Wednesday night, Bob and Harvey Weinstein and the New York Observer hosted a premiere screening at the Paris Theater of The Hunting Party, a new film written and directed by Richard Shepard starring Richard Gere and Terrence Howard. Afterwards there was a reception at Azza.

Then yesterday afternoon at the Brasserie Ruhlmann on Rockefeller Plaza, there was a celebratory luncheon for the film hosted again by the Weinstein brothers as well as Richard Gere and Terrence Howard, Jesse Eisenberg and John Falk, along with the director Mr. Shephard.

The rain was no match for the India-inspired décor at Richard and Marcia Mishaan’s home in Sagaponack as they entertained some of their close friends and supporters of the NYU Child Study Center. An exotic summer retreat came to mind as their guests were welcomed by the sounds of sitar music in a tent lit by hundreds of sparkling votive candles. Long tables laid with white linens, and white flowers accented by pieces of art that the Mishaan’s brought back from their recent trip to India.

Once the mood was set, the guests were treated to some of the customs of the country, including a henna artist who applied traditional tattoos in some “risky and risqué” places.

Among the guests: Craig Hatkoff and Jane Rosenthal, Dayssi and Paul Kanavos, Jenny Conant and Steve Kroft, Philippe Bigar, Ricardo and Cosima Pavencelli, Roz and Fran Lesperance, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Michaels, Patrick McMullan, Maria Cristina McGillacudy, Brooke and Dan Neidich, Dan Nir and Jill Braufman, Colt Givner and Pamela Fiori, Anne Keating, Jay and Tracy Snyder.

And there was more: Laura Steinberg, Mr. and Mrs. John Sykes, Christian Wolffer, Bettina Zilkha, Donna Zilkha, Jay and Kelly Sugerman, Patrick Stubgen and Dana Hammand, Claude Wasserstein, Lee Mindel, Peggy Siegal, Billy and Debbie Bancroft, Mr. and Mrs. Atillio Brillembourg, Beth DeWoody, Somers and Jonathan Farkas.
Of course, the important reason for the special evening wasn’t neglected as Richard Mishaan welcomed his guests and introduced the “guru” of the NYU Child Study Center, Founder and Director Harold S. Koplewicz, M.D. who spoke briefly, sharing some facts that may not be known about child mental health.  He pointed out that half the kids in juvenile justice have a learning disability; if you have ADHD and receive medication at 6 versus at 12, you are less likely to abuse illicit drugs as an adult; if you have untreated social phobia (extreme shyness) as a child you are significantly more likely to abuse alcohol as an adult; if you have untreated separation anxiety as a child, more likely to have panic attacks as an adult; and suicide is the third leading cause of death in teens and adolescents.

Dr. Koplewicz thanked everyone for their support, and invited them to continue the evening’s festivities which included dancing until well after midnight in Hampton-style abandon.
