The Southampton Inn was the lovely setting for the newly formed Rogers Memorial Library Foundation’s first fundraiser, an author’s luncheon with guest of honor Alex Kuczynski, the New York Times writer and author of Beauty Junkies: Inside Our $15 Billion Obsession with Cosmetic Surgery.

The Meadow Club crowd was treated to a witty and informative talk by Ms. Kuczynski over a luncheon of poached salmon, chicken salad and filet followed by molten chocolate cakes all prepared by The Inn’s recently appointed Executive Chef, Peter Dunlop of American Hotel fame. Founding Board member Nancy Stone was thrilled with the turnout and the success of their silent auction.

Last year, the new foundation was set up to provide support beyond public funding for the Library’s numerous community programs, lecture and film series that have made it a jewel on the cultural landscape. Besides Ms. Stone the dynamic board, a cross section of the Southampton business and philanthropic communities, includes Laura Danforth, Thomas Oplinger, Mary Quatroche, Hilary van Maur, Beatty Page Cramer, Stanley Glinka, Jr. and Jay Diesing.

The Rogers Memorial Library was founded in 1893 through the bequest of Harriet Rogers. Its first home the Victorian Gothic building on the corner of Job's Lane and Main Street was built in 1895 and opened its doors to the public in March 1896. Having outgrown that building, The Library moved to spacious new quarters atop a hill on Windmill Lane where it now serves 40,000 people year round.
