Maggie Betts celebrates her birthday at AMNH's Museum Days Dance 2009.

Last Thursday night at the American Museum of Natural History they held their 2009 Museum Dance, an annual affair beginning with cocktails, dinner in Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, followed by dessert and dancing. This dance is one of the city’s most popular junior social events with more than 700 attending.

Chairs were Fabiola Beracasa, Claire Bernard, Katie Lee Joel, Tinsley Mortimer and Arden Wohl. Dancing Chairs (musical chairs?) were Danny Baker 4th, Jason Beckman, Derek Blasberg and Simon Hammerstein.

Claire Bernard reported: “this year the event celebrates the Museum’s current show “Climate Change” by being the first benefit of its size to go Green: from the recycled materials that are innovatively and spectacularly used in the décor; to the local, organic, sustainable foods being served; to the brilliant, eco-friendly Stella McCarthy gowns the chairs will be wearing; to the floral and plant arrangements that will be replanted on the Museum’s grounds after the event; to all the energy efficient techniques such as LED bulbs, recycling, and eco-smart products with a high reuseage rate used in the event’s production – this year will be the first ever Green Dance in the Museum’s History.”

A couple of weeks ago, a newly formed group of young Manhattan professionals hosted its first event at Marquee to raise money for cancer research at City of Hope, a world-renowned biomedical research institution.

More than 250 attended. The event was the brainchild of Jocelyn Levy, whose mother is involved in the City of Hope East End chapter that has been raising money for over forty years.

City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Last Wednesday night at 7 o'clock Lulu de Kwiatkowski and Alfredo Gilardini, Wendy and Leonard Goldberg, Cameron Silver and Cooper Ray hosted an opening of "Social Primer," Cooper’s “pop-up” shop at Lily Lodge on 644 North Robertson in West Hollywood.

For one night only East Coast style was in abundance on trendy Robertson Boulevard, that shopping street more famous for disheveled starlets and paparazzi flashes. The invitation called not for black tie, but bow ties. Among the well-edited selection of gifts for gentlemen (“pardon me if I call you gentlemen”), the shop stocks a fine array of monogrammed stationery, playing cards, artisanal jams, fine and decorative art, rare books from Nick Harvill and velvet slippers.

The Gilardinis -- who recently relocated from New York to Los Angeles -- were joined by Beth Blake, Dylan Brown, Will Kopelman, Jack Merrill, Ruthie Sommers, Amber Mead and Guy Hindley as Manhattan expatriates came out to support one of their own.

The stylish guest list included Suzanne Rheinstein, Lucy Liu – who was the first guest to arrive fresh off the plane from New York, Entourage’s Perry Reeves, Crystal Lourd, Jamie Tisch, Lady Victoria Hervey, Julia Sorkin and Ruthie Sommers. San Franciscans Nicolo Bini, Alison Blumenfeld, Patrick Herning, and Shell and Craig Cardon were on hand as was Mad Men costumer Janie Bryant who stopped by for a little inspiration. Sally Perrin arrived in a dress by Martin Margiela made entirely of bow ties. Some people don’t kid around, even in L.A.
