Summer Wrap

John Legend at the M Missoni fashion show at W Hotel Hamptons Hideaway
Ralph Destino Jr. at the W Hotel Hamptons Hideaway
The Hamptons were in full swing the last week of August. They were all there: socials, high powered politicos, celebrities and the horsey set;  galloping around from party to benefit trying on new outfits and cheering on their favorite rider.

Belvedere Vodka hosted the M Missoni Spring 2008 show at the W Hotel Hamptons Hideaway with an after party at David Sarner’s Pink Elephant Club. Grammy award winner John Legend was surrounded by beautiful models and getting as much attention as the new clothes themselves. Among the crowd at the Pink Elephant: Bobby Montwaid, Allison Weiss Brady, designer Anait Bian, Ralph Destino Jr., Vicki and Fred Modell, Alison Minton, Brandon Davis, Al Reynolds, Tiki Barber, and Bridget Hall.

Joanne and Roberto de Guardiola gave a book party for Carl Bernstein and his new biography of Hillary Clinton, “A Woman in Charge” at their house in Southampton. In the crowd: Mario Buatta, Somers and Jonathan Farkas, Hilary Geary and Wilbur Ross, and Alexia Hamm Ryan. Alexia is Joanne’s Co-chair along with Alexandra Lind Rose for the upcoming Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s 19th Annual Preview Party for the Haughton International Fine Art and Antique Dealers Show. Honorary chairs are Janna Bullock, Taryn Rose, and Margaret Russell.

Soprano’s star Lorraine Bracco launched her new Bracco Wines Rose at the Watermill home of Andrew Borrok, who just sold 14 Penn Plaza for $350 million to concentrate on becoming a chef. Borrok, who attended the French Culinary Institute, created a gourmet menu utilizing Bracco’s Olive Oil and Rose. Guests included James Lipton, Stella Keitel, and Biba Boutique owner Barbara Blatt. Borrok had a busy weekend also hosting Bridghampton Polo with guests like Star Jones Reynolds and B. Smith, James Lipton, Mischa Barton, Rachel Hunter and race car driver Tim George Jr. Soon to be the host-with-the-mostest, he also hosted the party for the premiere of “The Hunting Party” for guests like Rick and Kathy Hilton, Norah Lawlor and her fiancé Jeffrey Bradford, Nacho Figueras, George Soros, and Jeff Ross.

Friends and fans of designer Jackie Rogers joined her for a preview of her Fall 2007 collection at her East Hampton boutique on Saturday before gearing up for her big Spring 2008 show at Fashion Week, where she will debut her Egyptian-themed designs and her first-ever jewelry line. East Hampton resident Joanna Mastroianni was another designer gearing up for Fashion Week where she will unveil her dragonfly inspired collection at Bryant Park.

Designer Maggie Norris felt inspired by the Hampton Classic and debuted her exquisite “Bespoke Shirting Collection” featuring equestrian-themed cuffs and collars at the Gail Rothwell Boutique. Guests included Town & Country Editor-in-Chief Pamela Fiori, Michele Gerber Klein, Jill Zarin, South Beach’s top real estate broker Diane Lieberman, and Heidi Albertsen.

CNN's Lou Dobbs and wife Debi were among the celebs to be spotted in the tents. Cornelia Guest made an appearance as did Bruce Springsteen, who came out to cheer on his 16-year-old daughter Jessica. Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook, not together, were seen watching the action in both The Grand Prix and the Grand Hunter ring during the week. Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs served up fine fare for the VIPs for the 20th year.

Jon Bon Jovi and wife Dorothea had a party celebrating end of summer at their home in East Hampton. Event decor master Dejuan Stroud created a Moroccan Tent to watch the spectacular community fireworks. The pool was surrounded by hurricane lanterns and in front of the stage set up on the lawn DeJuan created an outside lounge with dozens of daybeds and mattresses that were covered in turquoise and white pillows and white quilts for guests to recline and relax (when it all got to be too much?). Then came the treat that only a real rocker can provide for his guests: a jam session with Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffet, Roger Waters, and Paul McCartney. Imagine the cost of that ticket if it were a public concert.

Among the lucky ones dancing and singing along were Renee Zellweger, Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky, Donna Karan, Ross Bleckner, Penny Marshal, Matt Lauer, Bruce Springsteen, Chevy Chase, and Ron Perelman.
Two weeks ago, at the Carnegie Abbey Club in Newport, Graff Jewelers exhibited a collection of their fabulous jewelry for a privileged group of guests to benefit Newport Hosptial. The $30 million collection was the first private showing of Graff Jewels outside its showrooms.

The event, by invitation only, drew a crowd of more than 100 members and guests for cocktails at the 400-acre private club facility which features golf, equestrian, yachting and tennis facilities. It was organized by Dan MacDonald of Newport’s Three Golden Apples jewelry store and his partner Art Jacoby.

MacDonald and his wife Tooni were on hand, as was Carnegie Abbey Club owner Brian O’Neill.

Among the pieces on display was a pink and blue sapphire necklace valued at $800,000, which caught the eye of Kelly Lambrese of Bristol. Kimberley Skeen-Jones of Newport was smitten with a pair of diamond earrings, while Joan Martin sported an enormous canary-colored diamond ring worth $1.1 million.  Linda Howard of Massachusetts tried on a very rare golden pearl necklace valued at $340,000, calling it “very special to wear.”

Melanie Delman, president of Lila Delman Real Estate which just sold the Gray Craig estate to Nicholas Cage and is currently listing the Mrs. (William B.) Astor’s Beechwood cottage on Bellevue Avenue, loved the jewels. Also among the serious viewers: Jean McDonough and John and Hillary Olinger.
