Artsy celebrations

Kit Powers fast asleep at an opening celebration of "KKK" at Mary Boone Gallery, which features the works of Terence Koh, Jeff Koons and Mike Kelley.
Last Saturday night the Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea hosted an opening celebration for its exhibition "KKK" curated by Javier Peres, which features the works of Terence Koh, Jeff Koons and Mike Kelley. Koh's piece, "The Urinal," was the object of much male attention with a group of the guests standing with their backs to the camera to lend a little reality to the sculptural reality. Afterwards there was a party at The Eagle where dancers, socialites, art patrons, et al got a little taste of 70s gay nightlife in New York redux. Sorta.

Also last Saturday night at the Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery on 39 East 78 Street, Leila welcomed Her Majesty Empress Farah Pahlavi, photographer Georg Gerster and book editor Maryann Sachs, along with collectors, museum directors, business and social leaders, historians and other global thinkers. It also marked the first ever exhibition of 29 aerial photographs of Persia by Mr. Gerster, the award winning Swiss photographer. These photographs were taken in the immediate years before the 1979 Iranian Revolution. They were recently compiled in the book "Paradise Lost: Persia From Above," edited by Ms. Sachs and published by Phaidon Press.
