Une Journée

The finale from Van Cleef's “Une Journée à Paris.”
Van Cleef & Arpels celebrated the start of Fashion Week with “Une Journée à Paris” and a remarkable collection of haute joaillerie in a magical evening themed around a woman’s journey through Paris. The spirit was captured in the décor, fashion, food (Daniel Boulud’s Feast & Fetes), and entertainment, which included a fashion show styled by Annabel Tollman (all models from Elite Model Management) and performances by both the legendary Lido cabaret dancers and The Plastiscines who rocked a cover tune of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots are Made for Walkin’.”

The Hammerstein Ballroom was transformed inside and out. To put everyone in the mood of the evening’s theme, , art-based advertising and promotions agency R&D Culture commissioned artist Sean Capone to create a spectacle of ornamental motion graphic animation that was projected on the building façade as well as across the street. The final creation was one of the largest projections of motion graphics ever done in New York.

Last Monday night Arlene C. Cooper opened her apartment for a sneak peak of Jerome Robbins’ NY Export: Opus Jazz, The Film. There were cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Jock Soto’s catering company Lucky Basset Events.

New York City Balletsoloists Ellen Bar and Sean Suozzi (recently promoted after his debut as Romeo in Peter Martins’ new Romeo + Juliet this past spring) are creating and producing a modern film adaptation of Jerome Robbins′ 1958 "jazz ballet" NY Export: Opus Jazz, in collaboration with the Robbins Rights Trust, Supermarche Productions (Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman), award-winning cinematographer Jody Lee Lipes, and a cast of sixteen dancers from the New York City Ballet.
"Opus Jazz" is the first film conceived, created, produced and danced by New York City Ballet dancers, and the first feature film adaptation of Jerome Robbins′ choreography since West Side Story. The film is set for a 2008 release to coincide with the 50th anniversary of NY Export: Opus Jazz and the International Jerome Robbins Festival celebrating his 90th birthday and commemorating the 10th anniversary of his death.
