Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Senior Associate Luncheon at The Oak Room, The Plaza Hotel. |
Also this past Monday, The Senior Associates Committee of The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) hosted its 2009 Spring Lunch at The Oak Room in the Plaza. Sponsored by John Hardy, more than 100 guests attended including special guest, Guy Bedarida, Creative Director for John Hardy. John Hardy displayed unique one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for guests to try on and purchase.

Take me back to Manhattan,
Take me back to New York.
I'm just longing to see once more
My little home on the hundredth floor!
Can you wonder I'm gloomy?
Can you smile when I frown?
I miss the east side, the west side,
the north side, and the south side.
So take me back to Manhattan,
That dear old dirty town!
From “Anything Goes”
By Cole Porter
Again, on the jammed packed New York calendar this past Monday night, the Roundabout Theatre Company held a big band-themed gala, Take Me Back to Manhattan, at Roseland Ballroom. Hosted by Nathan Lane, the evening included a VIP reception, dinner, live auction and star-studded performance.
Kathleen Marshall staged the musical revue that boasted songs from Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and the Gershwins.
Among those who lent their talents to the performance were Audra McDonald (110 in the Shade, Ragtime), Kelli O'Hara (South Pacific, Light in the Piazza), Boyd Gaines (Gypsy), Denis O'Hare (Assassins), Martha Plimpton (Pal Joey, Coast of Utopia), Brooke Shields (Wonderful Town), Jane Krakowski (Nine, Damn Yankees), Mario Cantone (Assassins) and Katie Finneran (Noises Off). |

Out Southampton Way. The Paul Koster Memorial Benefit, which raises funds for higher education and trade school scholarships for local high school graduates, teamed up with The Have A Heart Community Trust, which provides relief to East End residents in times of crisis, at the 9th annual “Casino Royale” extravaganza.
On Saturday, March 28 in Southampton, Jean Mackenzie, whose husband Paul Koster was tragically killed when a tractor fell on him as he was helping a neighbor pull out a tree stump, welcomed hundreds of supporters to the fun-filled night of gaming, dancing, and fine fare which also served as the debut of her new event space, Four Seasons Caterer, Southampton.

Paul Koster |
Jean and her daughter Mackenzie Koster greeted Southampton’s popular mayor Mark Epley and his wife Maryann, author Dr. Bob Zellner and his wife Linda, interior designers Barbara Fox and Neno Rosa of Fox Rosa, Lisa Jackson, Campion Platt and his wife Tatiana, Rona Landman, Dr. Kevin Plancher, and Jeanine Zeiring and her son Nathaniel, as well as Victoria and Bill Wright, Stephanie Deppe, Paton Miller, Karen Beinowiscz, Joanne Zarras, Geraldine French, Mary Slattery, Have a Heart founder Rose Dios, Sarah Bradford , tea guru Tracey Stern, and Heather Fyfe to name just a few good samaritans who came out to help their community. Guests purchased raffle tickets to win a wide range of prizes from Tiffany & Co. and J. McLaughlin gift certificates to a one-week Mexican getaway.
An iconic Hamptons family, the Kosters were painted four times by their friend, the legendary and much missed Larry Rivers - who swore by the Clamman and its fresh seafood. Paul Koster was an avid fan of local sports teams who were supported by the Southampton Youth Association. A beloved local figure, Koster could always be found on the sidelines cheering for the children and providing food for the team’s year-end parties.
He opened The Clamman in 1982 on North Sea Road and it quickly became Southampton’s top seafood spot; selling fresh fish, homemade sauces, soups and other tasty takeout dishes. The Kosters also provided catering services to their clients and became a wholesaler to the area’s best restaurants. Realizing that the demand was growing and that the parties were becoming bigger, Jean Mackenzie launched Four Seasons Caterer in 2000 and has fed everyone from Steven Spielberg and Gwyneth Paltrow to Mariah Carey, Dana Hammond and the Hearst clan.
Last year, Mackenzie purchased the space that housed the famed restaurant John Duck, a village staple for decades, on Prospect Street in Southampton. She renovated and transformed the 19th century farmhouse, that in the 1920’s was a charming old school bed and breakfast, into an airy, open oasis that opens to a gardens and a lush lawn suitable for tenting The venue,20which features the original fireplace, will play host to private and public events - from weddings and galas to weekly lobster nights and wine parings.
This Easter Sunday, Four Seasons Caterer, Southampton will open to the public with their first-ever Easter Egg Hunt and a family friendly buffet created by their noted chef Jeremy Palmer with 20 culinary selections, including their famous seafood, carving and pasta stations, and a decadent dessert table. Local jazz favorite Jim Turner will perform and guests are encouraged to bring canned food items to donate to The Human Resources of the Hamptons.
