Neiman Marcus, that Dallas department store that is famous throughout the world, held its 100th anniversary gala celebration last Friday at its downtown flagship Dallas store. In keeping with the store’s long tradition of supporting the cultural arts, Neiman Marcus contributed all proceeds from the gala to the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, a new multi-venue performing arts center opening in 2009 in the Dallas Arts District.

“For a century, Neiman Marcus has set the standard for merchandising and service excellent,” said Karen Katz, President and CEO of Neiman Marcus Stores. “We are equally proud of our role in the Dallas community and our commitment to the arts in Dallas.”

The Gala Host Committee was made up of 60 couples including Linda and William Custard, Rachael and Bob Dedman, Heidi and Bill Dilllon, Franchon and Howard Fallam, Ann and Lee Hobson, Gene and Jerry Jones, Sarah and Ross Perot Jr., Deedie and Rusty Rose, Myrna and Robert Schlegel, Peggy and Carl Sewell, Rita and Burt Tansky, (Mr. Tansky is President and CEO of Neiman Marcus Group), Lisa and Kenny Troutt and Dee and Charles Wyly. Jeanne Marie Clossey was chairman of the committee.

The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc. operations include the Specialty Retail Stores segment and the Direct Marketing segment. The Specialty Retail Stores segment consists primarily of Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores. The Direct Marketing segment conducts both print and online operations under the Neiman Marcus, Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman brand names.

Charles and Clo Cohen hosted an elegant black-tie soiree last Wednesday night for 80 people, many prominent members of the design and decorating worlds.

The evening was held at the ASTRA restaurant located in the D&D building where guests dined on Charlie Palmer signature dishes and toasted: Lifetime Achievement winner, Paige Rense, editor in chief of Architectural Digest, Interior Designer Peter Marino, Architect Lee Mindel, Product designer Karim Rashid (who was busy giving a lecture overseas but sent his uber trendy sister Soraya in his stead), artist Michelle Oka Doner, (see NYSD HOUSE) photographer Judith Turner, designer Ivan Chermanyess and landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg. In addition to all of these awards, Charles Cohen handed a scholarship award to Thomas Schutte president of Pratt Institute.
