The United Hospital Fund honored Andrea Jung, chairman and chief executive officer of Avon Products, Charles R. Bronfman, co-founder and chairman of the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies, and Barbara Gimbel, an honorary director of the United Hospital Fund, for their voluntary leadership and exceptional contributions to improving health care in New York.
The UHF's annual gala marked the opening of the Fund's 129th fund-raising campaign on behalf of New York City's non-profit hospitals and the Fund's work to shape positive change in health care in the city.
Ms. Jung received the Fund's Health Care Leadership Award for her philanthropic vision, guiding the Avon Foundation to a leading role in the fight against breast cancer. Avon is now the world's largest corporate supporter of this cause, raising more than $450 million to support education, detection programs, and access to clinical care and supportive services. |

Charles Bronfman received the Fund's Distinguished Community Service Award. for the bold and visionary initiative made possible by his $12.5 million leadership gift, creating the new Institute for Personalized Medicine at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Its work is intended to transform the traditional “one-size-fits-all” model of medicine into personalized medicine—a system that matches care to an individual's unique set of genes—hailed by many as potentially the most important scientific development of the 21st century.
Barbara P. Gimbel was recognized with a Special Tribute for her contributions to the Fund, its beneficiary hospitals, and the people of New York.
The benefit chairman was J. Barclay Collins II, executive vice president and general counsel of Hess Corporation, who is also chairman of the United Hospital Fund.
The United Hospital Fund is a health services research and philanthropic organization whose mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York. |

Last Thursday, November 1st, The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) hosted a scientific luncheon and lecture at the Mandarin Oriental to discuss the latest advancements in Targeted Therapy for Lung Cancer and to raise critical funds for research.
The lecture was given by Roy S. Herbst, M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Chief Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology and Co-Director, Phase I Working Group at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The event was hosted by Bill Ritter, Anchor of WABC Eyewitness News, and co-chaired by Laurie C. Carson and Kimberly Kravis Schulhof. Over 230 guests attended the luncheon raising $226,000 for important lung cancer research. To mark the occasion, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaimed November in the City of New York as Lung Cancer Awareness month.

Last month Luca Luca celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness month with Lisa Hoenshell Boone hosting a luncheon honoring Dr. Mary L. Gemignani, Breast Surgeon, Department of Breast Surgery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Cancer.
