Fundraising Galas and Closing Cermonies

"Music For Mercy Corps," a benefit to Aid The People of DARFUR, hosted By Sarah Silverman.
Last Saturday night at the Tuscan Villa in Watermill, Sarah Silverman hosted the first-ever "Music for Mercy Corps" fundraising gala to benefit the people of Darfur, produced by Take Note.

It's not just about donations, although those help. Mercy Corps is also looking for graduate and undergraduate student interns looking "to apply your education to hands-on projects that contribute to Mercy Corps' efforts to end world poverty."
Take Note is a newly formed non-profit organization that links the entertainment industry with national and international charities, non-government organizations, and advocacy and human rights groups that humanely respond to victims of natural or man-made crises around the world.

Mercy Corps "works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability to unleash the potential of people who can win against nearly impossible odds." It was founded in 1979 by Dan O’Neill who witnessed the horrors of Idi Amin in Uganda and the terrorism at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Since its founding Mercy Corps has provided about $1.5 billion in assistance to people in more than a hundred nations. They’ve been active in the Georgia-Russian situation, distributing food and other critical supplies.
