Celebrating the Visual Arts

The dinner scene at the 2008 Frederic E. Church Award dinner to benefit the Olana Partnership.
Tuesday night at the Pierre, they held the 2008 Frederic E. Church Award dinner which benefits the Olana Partnership. They honored Alice Walton – Founder of Crystal Bridges Museum of Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, and John Wilmerding, one of the nation’s most respected scholars and authorities on American Art. Ms. Walton is one of the offspring of Mr. Sam himself.

Before the event there was a private reception at the Adelson Galleries at 19 East 82nd Street for a preview of the exhibition, “Frederic Edwin Church: Romantic Landscapes and Seascapes,” followed by cocktails at the Pierre and then dinner.

The evening’s presenters were Ruth Carter Stevenson and Ted Stebbins. The evening’s co-chairs were Marshall Field V, Richard A Manoogian, H. Peter Stern and Helen W. Drutt English.

The Olana Partnership advocates for and supports the conservation, preservation, development and improvement of the Olana State Historic site, once the home of the painter Frederic Church, one of the country’s most important artists, a student of Thomas Cole and a major figure in the Hudson River School of landscape painting, who was born in 1826 and died in 1900.

The partnership is a real act of love and brings out the best in people devoted to culture and the arts in this country. You can learn more about it by visiting the site: www.olana.org or even visiting.
