As child growing up in New York, I loved visiting the extraordinary dollhouse collection at the Museum of The City of New York. Spellbound, I’d project my wee self into lavish, historical, mini interiors, full of wondrous fantasies.
This year CIVITAS’s special annual Event honored the Museum and its Directors for exemplary programming. The Museum is now engaged in an $80 million modernization project.

CIVITAS is one of those great organizations committed to enhancing the quality of life in New York through neighborhood improvement. Its specific focus is the Upper East Side as well as East Harlem. Its projects center on responsible development in creating a sustainable urban environment.
This year the CIVITAS August Heckscher Award was presented to the Museum of The City of New York’s President and Director Susan Henshaw Jones, Chairman James G. Dinan, and Chairman Emeritus, Newton P.S.Merrill. The award was presented by CIVITAS Vice Chairs Genie Rice and Gorman Reilly.
The reception took place at the Ukrainian Institute, the old Fletcher mansion on the southeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 79th Street. Floral arrangements and food presentation were provided by Jamie Gibbs and Associates. Mr. Gibbs also serves on the Board of Directors of CIVITAS. Music was provided by Alex Donner.
The Museum of the City of New York celebrates the city’s heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. Founded in 1923 as a private, non-profit corporation, the Museum serves the people of New York and visitors from across the country and around the world through exhibition, collections, publications, and school and public programs. Currently engaged in an $80-million modernization project, the Museum, in 2004, re-dedicated itself to its landmark building bridging Manhattan's Upper East Side, East Harlem, and Upper Manhattan.
