| Food Allergy Initiative presented its ninth annual Spring Luncheon, a week ago last Tuesday at Cipriani 42nd Street and raised more than $700,000. All proceeds benefited the FAI’s research activities and educational programs aimed at effectively treating and raising awareness of life-threatening food allergies. Abbey Braverman and Roxanne Palin were this year’s Co-Chairs. Lee Goldberg, Meteorologist, WABC-TV, Eyewitness News, and the parent of a food-allergic child, was the Master of Ceremonies. Mary Richardson Kennedy, wife of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., spoke at the event and introduced parent advocate Sara Shannon, the driving force behind “Sabrina’s Law.” This landmark legislation, which protects Ontario schoolchildren with food allergies, was named after Sara’s 13-year-old daughter, who lost her life to a severe allergic reaction in 2003. |

| Julie Menin, chairperson of Manhattan Community Board 1, presented FAI’s 2008 Leadership Awards to Amanda Bromberg and Jill Mindlin, who were instrumental in the passage of the 2007 law that calls for schools throughout New York State to adopt guidelines that protect children with food allergies. Liana Silverstein Backal, Melissa Meyers and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff were this year’s Raffle Co-Chairs. Harriette Rose Katz and her daughter, Melissa Rosenbloom, donated the event-planning expertise of Gourmet Advisory Services for this year’s luncheon. The Food Allergy Initiative is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for life-threatening food allergies. In addition to funding research worldwide, FAI supports public policy initiatives to create safer environments for those afflicted with food allergies. The organization has also created educational programs for schools, health and child care workers, and members of the food service and hospitality industries to increase awareness about food allergies. |

| NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital hosted its annual black-tie gala benefit and raised nearly $3 million in support of Emergency Medicine department that provides around-the-clock care for over 230,000 patients each year, closed with a live performance by the legendary Stevie Nicks. The gala honored all the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Emergency Medicine Departments that provide superior care and recognized Drs. Neal Flomenbaum (NYP-Weill Cornell) and James Giglio (NYP/Columbia), both hospital directors of Emergency Medicine. |

| New Yorkers of every ilk and stripe -- philanthropists, officials, powerbrokers, financiers, entrepreneurs, fashionistas, designers, art patrons and celebrities-at-large walked the GREEN carpet into the Chelsea Art Tower Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of TUMI’s Alpha Collection and partnership with Matthew Modine’s green initiative, Bicycle For A Day (“BFAD”). Tumi’s David Chu, Bebe Neuwirth, Tinsley Mortimer and Peter Davis arrived in pedi-cabs while guest of honor, Matthew Modine, rode his orange bicycle to the event in a dapper suit – quite a sight for Manhattan’s populace and not a hair out of place! |

| Hosts David Chu, John McEnroe and Tinsley Mortimer greeted guests such as Liam Neeson, Gustavo Arango, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Phillip Bloch, Geoffrey Bradfield, Bethenny Frankel, Robert Futterman, Miguelina Gambaccini, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Eric Villency, Lydia Fenet, Anisha Lakhani,Kristian Laliberte, Fern Mallis, Gilles Mendel, Katrina Pavlos, Tatiana Platt, Lauren Remington Platt, Nick Raynes, Maggie Rizer, Evanly Schindler, Ling Tang, Vivienne Tam, Annabel Vartanian, Joyce Varvatos and Chessy Wilson, Matthew Modine’s vision for BFAD promotes alternative transportation and preservation of the environment. He visited and photographed Global Releaf’s reforestation project in California after the devastation of the San Bernardino fires. Tumi, which is committed to protecting and rebuilding the environment, specially commissioned the works in support of their pledge to plant 100,000 trees in various reforestation projects administered and overseen by the long-standing leader in the field, American Forests’ Global Releaf. |

| Others congregated around the revolving platform in the form of a giant bicycle wheel, which showcased Tumi’s Alpha Collection, of which the limited edition bike bag designed by Matthew Modine in collaboration with David Chu, was the star. Partial proceeds of the sale of the bags will be donated to BFAD. That’s not all -- Mr. Modine and his partner, Tar-Art, created a special BFAD dog tag, sure to become the next “must have” accessory. The tags will soon be available online through BFAD’s website, www.bicycleforaday.org, as well as select Tumi boutiques and eventually, at www.tumi.com. Proceeds from the sale of both items benefit BFAD and its beneficiaries, American Forests’ Global Releaf and the Waterkeeper Alliance. |
