For three days at the beginning of last week, more than 120 delegates, including heads of state, acclaimed artists, Nobel Prize winners, global CEOs and the influential international thought-leaders gathered in New York for the third annual Global Creative Leadership Summit, a platform designed to address the challenges and opportunities of globalization.
Held at the Metropolitan Club and organized by the Louise Blouin Foundation, the conference addressed a wide range of the world’s most pressing issues, including turmoil in the global financial markets, international trade, foreign policy, education, global health, Africa and climate change.
Panels addressed such topics as “Economies of Crisis,” “Internet Security,” and “Education, Creativity, and the Mind” to “The Futures of Globalization,” “Global Health,” and “Climate Change,” among other topics.

Louise Blouin MacBain, founder and chair of the Louise Blouin Foundation, which presented the Summit, emphasized the importance of working together to solve the challenges ahead.
“As recent events have shown, no one is immune from turmoil. Whether it is financial upheaval, armed conflict, terrorism, a deteriorating environment, or climate change, we all inhabit a world in which no country’s problems belong solely to them. It is up to us to face these problems, which affect all of us, head-on, and to devise solutions to the challenges and opportunities we are confronted with. By bringing together the best and brightest minds from across the spectrum of disciplines -- artists, scientists, politicians, conservationists, academics, business experts and others -- we can develop the conversations and nuanced cultural understanding that are critical to dealing with a complex, multi-dimensional world.” |

Last Tuesday night at the Plaza, the Institute of International Education held their Benefit Gala at the Plaza Hotel and honoring HRH Princess Ghida Talal and Alcoa President and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld.
Special guest for the evening was James A. Glassman, Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, U.S. Department of State.

The Cinema Society and Vanity Fair (along with Jaguar & Hearts on Fire) hosted a screening of Appaloosa at the Tribeca Grand.
Adapted from the Robert B. Parker novel, directed by (and starring) four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris, this film also stars Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen, and Academy Award winners Renee Zellweger and Jeremy Irons.
Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen were both at the screen and at the party that followed in the Penthouse of the Soho Grand Hotel.

More than 500 guests turned out for Susan and Tony Bennett's Exploring the Arts (ETA) gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
The evening raised over $1.2M for the Bennett's non-profit Exploring the Arts organization that supports arts education in public schools. Honored at the event were Reed Hastings, Chairman, President and CEO of Netflix Sumner Redstone, Executive Chairman of Viacom and CBS Corporation, and Steve Wynn, Chairman of Wynn Resorts. Terrence Howard, Katie Couric and Quincy Jones presented the award to each recipient, respectively. Whoopi Goldberg hosted the evening and the gala featured performances by Jerry Seinfeld, John Mayer and Terrence Howard. Tony Bennett performed to close the evening. In attendance were Joy and Regis Philbin, Rachael Ray, Gayle King, Donna Karan, Mitch Albom, and actors Michael Imperioli ("Sopranos") and Eduardo Verastegui ("Bella").
The evening also featured a musical performance and art exhibition by students from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (FSSA), the NYC public arts high school founded by Susan and Tony Bennett and supported by ETA, in partnership with NYC's Department of Education.
CharityBuzz.com auctioned several items donated by Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Bruce Springsteen, Katie Holmes, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, and many others. They can be viewed on www.charitybuzz.com and those not sold at the event will be available until tomorrow, October 1 on the website. |
