Honorees were Quincy Jones and Patti Labelle, who joined Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, and other illustrious luminaries inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame.
They also honored the corporate citizenship of The Coca-Cola Company, a company that has demonstrated a respectable commitment and responsibility to the Theater and its community. The evening will be hosted by Steve Harvey with star-studded appearances and performances by The O’Jays, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, and Jamie Foxx. Following the performance was a star-studded evening at the Apollo Supper Club an amazing and unique lounge atmosphere created by renowned designer, David Monn which featured the gourmet creations of Great Performances; with refreshments courtesy of Belvedere, Hennessy and Moët and Chandon; all of which was followed by late-night dancing with one of the hottest DJ’s in New York City, DJ D-Nice. All proceeds of this Gala will benefit the Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to preserving and developing the Apollo Theater and its initiatives for performing artists, educational programs, and community outreach efforts in New York City and beyond. |

On the first Friday in June, the Jay Heritage Center held a kickoff party for its summer Quadricentennial Exhibit, “A Legacy of Sailing: Owners of the Jay Estate and Yachting in New York 1843-1966.”
During the cocktail hour, guests were treated to a special appearance of “Brilliant” courtesy of Mystic Seaport, The Museum of America and the Sea. This breathtakingly restored 61 foot, classic 1932 schooner was moored in AYC’s harbor for one night only. Just to see her, guests were transported to another era when sailing was America’s favorite pastime. Party guests also saw a preview of some of the items from the JHC’s exhibit which opened Sunday, June 7th in the 1838 Peter Augustus Jay Mansion, including selections of period yachting photos from Mystic Seaport’s renowned Rosenfeld Collection. A light supper and entertainment followed with music by the Felix Swing Band. Nancy and Russell Cecil were the JHC 2009 Preservation Honorees and both were recognized for their devotion to the preservation of arts, architecture and culture in Rye. |
