“Tomorrow is Tonight,” the 11th annual Project ALS benefit gala, was held on Tuesday night at the Waldorf-Astoria with a bevy of young stars who turned to support the organization.
ALS, which stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known in this country as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, after the famous Yankee baseball player of the 1930s contracted it, is a progressive, usually fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body. It is a hideous and torturous disease. In the past fifteen years there has been some breakthroughs with drugs (such as Rilutek) but a cure remains elusive. |
