2.24.07 - The Armory Show 2007 opened on Thursday with a preview benefiting the Museum of Modern Art. The Armory started out in 1994 in the Gramercy Park Hotel and now has blossomed into one of the top fairs in the world. This year, the fair has moved all under one roof at the far superior Pier 94 on the Hudson River.
The fair remains open through Monday, so it is a must see for anyone interested in what's happening in the art of today. My own personal discoveries were the work of Julien Hoeber given a solo showing at LA's Blum & Poe; Adrian Paci's brilliant six-minute film at Milan's Francesca Kaufmann; Alice Neel's Nature Morte at Cheim & Read, and William J. O'Brien at Chicago's Shane Campbell. I was lucky enough to be included for the dinner Blum & Poe gave for Julien Hoeber at the ever-glamourous Indochine afterwards.
