Last Thursday night at The Gates on Eighth Avenue and 24th Street, UNICEF launched its “Next Generation” raising money for Project Sprinkles: Combating Malnutrition in Guatemala. Hostess for the evening was Jenna Bush Hager. It was a great evening for a good cause. UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in over 150 countries, UNICEF provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.

The 2009 Hamptons Designer Showhouse, presented by Traditional Home to benefit Southampton Hospital opened this past Sunday at 179 David’s Lane in Water Mill. It will be open Monday through Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm until September 6th. This is a very popular Hamptons event and it draws contributors from the upper echelon of New York interior design circles.

Admission to the Showhouse is $30 and includes a journal. No strollers, infants, children under 6 or pets are admitted. The participating designers always deliver a lot to look at, to consider and to be intrigued by.

Quintessential and stellar New York now was the screening of Woody Allen’s latest, Whatever Works, hosted by the Cinema Society along with The New Yorker and Moët & Chandon. The film showing was followed by a dinner under the stars (with the stars) at that New York institution, The River Café. Everybody, it seems, had dropped everything to see Woody and his new picture.
