Last Monday night at the Roseland Ballroom, Robert Redford hosted the 2008 Sundance Institute celebration, joined by Sundance artists and alumni for the Institute’s annual New York City fundraiser. Proceeds support the non-profit Sundance Institute and its year round development programs for independent film and theatre artists.

Celebrity waiters served the drinks during cocktail hour, including Judah Friedlander, Hope Davis, Michael Imperioli, Joey Pantoliano and Assif Mandvi,with menu by Tom Colicchio of "Top Chef."

The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter honored Major League Baseball legends Sandy Koufax and Chris Chambliss and professional tennis legend John McEnroe at their 14th Annual Lou Gehrig Sports Awards Benefit on last Monday night at New York Marriott Marquis on Broadway at 45th Street. Chambliss was unable to attend at the last minute due to a family matter, but his teammate Graig Nettles stepped in to accept the award on his behalf.

ESPN's Jeremy Schaap served as Master of Ceremonies and renowned sports announcer Bob Costas presented the sports honorees with their awards. Josh Javits, son of Senator Jacob Javits, also presented The Jacob K. Javits Lifetime Achievement Award to Denis J. “DJ” Carey III, nephew of Governor Hugh Carey, and a huge ALS advocate. Former New York Yankee Tommy John, former Brooklyn Dodger Ralph Branca, former New York Giant Howard Cross and Hockey Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert were also on hand.

Oscar, Oscar, Oscar. It’s that time of year when the film studios release their potential Oscar contenders and one of the first this season to be receiving a heap of awards buzz and accolades is Rachel Getting Married. The Cinema Society and Lancome teamed up for a glitzy screening of the much-ballyhooed film.

Directed by Academy Award winning Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia), and first-time writer Jenny Lumet, it is a heartfelt family portrait, about a fresh-out-of-rehab woman (Anne Hathway) who returns home for the wedding of her sister Rachel, reviving a long history of personal crisis, family conflict and long-simmering tensions.

Hathaway, Lumet and co-stars Debra Winger, Mather Zickel, Sebastian Stan, Derrick Williams, and Dorian Missick, all joined Cinema Society founder Andrew Saffir for the screening and supper (with food by caterer-to-the-stars Mary Giuliani) which followed at the brand new and hip Cooper Square Hotel.

Kipton Cronkite and Gillian Hearst Simonds greeted guests such as Marisa Arredondo, Catherine Forbes, Mark Mullet, Maggie Rizer, Emma Snowdon-Jones, Simon van Kempen and Alex McCord (stopping in on their way to fellow Housewife Jill Zarin’s party).

Frederick Anderson and Douglas Hannant made a dashing pair in their lush silk brocade dinner jackets, embroidered in Asian themes. Resplendent in purple chiffon, with perfectly manicured toes peeking from silver sequined pumps, Anisha Lakhani enthralled guests with the inside scoop on her best-selling novel, Schooled -- which debuted in the New York Times that morning, making for a double celebration.

Typically guests go to a party coiffed and dressed to impress, but at this anniversary celebration, guests left looking even more glam upon departure, treated to sexy blow outs, make- up applications and manicures.

Smiling shyly, a radiant Isabel Getty (daughter of Chris and Pia Getty) sported a sassy manicure, setting off a beeline to the sleek manicure stations, demonstrating that beauty care begins at any age. Guests swayed to the tunes of DJ Serebe.
