Last Thursday night, we had an opening preview of an exhibition of 39 photographs by JH which first appeared at the top of the Diary pages. The photographs, printed in series of ten (see Friday’s Diary for details), were also for sale with the proceeds going to the Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy.   Edith Dicconson and DPC There were about 500 guests who came by for the look-see, the see-friends, and the Úluvka vodka cocktails. The photographs are really beautiful, stunning, if I may say so considering they’ve graced these pages in the past. Hirsch has an eye for beauty. And the curious. And a slice of life. Having seen the eye’s development since we started this web site together in late 2000, and we needed someone to take pictures, I’ve concluded that it’s an “eye” that you’re born with. Or you’re not. I’ve been in his company many times, especially on our trips abroad, when we walking or riding to some destination -- a dinner, a visit, a concert -- and he’ll suddenly just stop, pull out the camera and take a picture, and that’s that. It seems so easy a process in the watching, and yet ... have you ever tried that?  Not so easy, if you know what I mean. Some people think it’s the camera and they ask: why kind of camera? I personally think it’s the eye. The photographs are on exhibition at The Chinese Porcelain Company through today, May 19th. If you can't make it down to The Chinese Porcelain Company to see in person, you can always order by phone and pay by credit card.
