| The annual Medicine Ball, this year entitled “Supper In the City,” sponsored by The Women’s Board of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) was held at the InterContinental Hotel, 505 North Michigan Ave. Grammy Award-winning and two-time Emmy nominee Steve Tyrell performed at a black concert grand piano. Among his songs in his repertoire: It Had To be You, Give Me the Simple Life and The Way You Look Tonight. The evening’s décor highlighted the cabaret theme -- palm branches were placed about the room, tables were dressed in persimmon colored taffeta and the centerpieces featured apricot roses, orange and green orchids, a host of candles plus a sparkling fiber optic curtain behind the stage welcomed the guests that numbered almost 400. Sponsorships were very strong this year as was the Fund-a-Need Appeal which will benefit RIC’s robust clinical research initiative to integrate innovative research into clinical care. Projected profit from the Medicine Ball is between $400,000 to $500,000. |

| This year’s chair was Cyndy Strong, her co-chairs were Kate Boege and Kristin Smith. Others on the committee were Carrie Grant, Kitty Freidheim, Leslie Kennedy, Julia Pesek and Tamara Weiss – all of Chicago. Active Board members from the north shore were Pat Booth of Lake Bluff, Lori Nerenberg of Wilmette, Patsy Callahan of Kenilworth and Cidney Golman of Highland Park. The president of the RIC Women’s Board is Michelle Smead of Chicago. The Ball raises funds for RIC’s research initiatives that support the hospital’s bold vision to advance human ability. Through new technologies and new treatments, RIC will work to translate scientific discoveries into innovations that provide patients with the most advanced care available to reclaim their goals and thrive in life. RIC provides world-class rehabilitation care to patients from around the globe for a range of conditions from acute brain and spinal cord injury to chronic arthritis, pain and sports injuries. RIC, founded in 1954, has been designated the “#1 Rehabilitation Hospital in America” by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1991 and attributes its leading standard of care in part to its innovative research and discovery, particularly in the areas of bionic medicine, robotics, neural regeneration, pain care and better outcomes.
