WIN win situation

Two weeks ago at the Pierre, Women In Need, Inc. a nonprofit organization that serves women and children who are homeless and disadvantaged held a benefit dinner and honored Steve Sadove, CEO of Saks with the 2007 Commit to WIN award. Mr. Sadove's long-time friend Marlo Thomas presented him with the award and announced that a community room at the Jennie A. Clarke shelter in Manhattan was named for him.

More than $1.5 million was raised at the gala which drew a record breaking guestlist that included top fashion and retail industry names. Event chairs were Stephanie George, Executive VP of Time Inc. and Trudy Sullivan, President of Liz Claiborne Inc. Dinner chairs were Kayce Freed Jennings and Jaqui Lividini.

Former WIN client Loretta Gaillard spoke of her triumph overcoming addiction and homelessness. For the second year, The Peter Jennings Prize: A Child's View was presented to four children from the WIN shelters for their poems and essays. WIN board member Kayce Freed Jennings spoke of prize which was established in 2006 to honor her husband, a long time WIN friend and supporter. Mrs. Jennings introduced Elizabeth Jennings, Peter's daughter, who presented gifts and libraries donated by Random House to the children.

The Metropolitan Club was transformed into a springtime fantasy for the dinner dance celebrating Angela and Steven Kumble’s wedding on Friday, April 13. The couple was married quietly in Palm Beach in December and will reside in New York, Newport and Palm Beach. Mrs. Kumble Angela long blue Ungaro designed especially for her by Emanuel Ungaro himself.  Mr. Kumble is Chairman and CEO of the Corinthian Capital Group.

Fiori created a springtime garden with pastel flowers and tables throughout the club.  There were 140 guests, the ladies bejeweled and and the gents in black-tie, attending from the city, and Newport, and Palm Beach.  The celebration menu consisted of caviar, rack of lamb, champagne, and an individual cake for each guest, which was color coordinated to the flowers for each table.

Among the guests:Governor Mario Cuomo and Matilda Cuomo, Susan Fales-Hill, Fred and Liz DeLuca, Dr. Herbert Pardes, the CEO of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Maria and Byron Janis, Victoria and Joseph Mele, Palm Beach Winter residents (Victoria is the daughter of Oatsie Charles, who lives in Newport and Washington DC), Peter Miller (Peter is a New York executive and once starred in a movie with Bette Davis and Ann-Margret, called, " A Pocket Full of Miracles"), Christina Giguere, and lots of Kumbles -  Jennifer, Mary, Roger (who is a director, writer, producer in Hollywood), Steven, and Todd and many others who danced the night away to the music of Peter Duchin and his orchestra.
