All is fair

Opening night of the second edition of Art Antiques London.
Yes, that was Oprah Winfrey darting into an elaborate marquee in London’s Kensington Gardens to shop the second edition of Art Antiques London.

The elegant fair that ran from June 9 to 14, is the brainchild of Anna and Brian Haughton who will be returning to the Park Avenue Armory in October with their annual International Fine Art & Antique Dealers Show.

In London, the veteran international fair organizers curate a mix of dealers of museum-quality ceramics, antique furniture, paintings, drawings, English watercolorsr, jewelry, and Asian works of art.

Dinner jackets and floor-length gowns filled the fair’s aisles when the First Night Party to benefit Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) kicked off with a champagne reception, followed by a dinner and silent auction.

The following evening there were more corks popping at the Collectors’ Dinner where Dame Rosalind Savill, the beloved director of London’s Wallace Collection who is retiring this fall, gave poignant remarks to the crowd of collectors and curators who responded with heartfelt applause.

The Asian Cultural Council held a benefit at Mikimoto, the world’s premier pearl jeweler, to launch Arts in Action ! Japan, a new program to assist artists, arts and cultural institutions and cultural districts devastated by the earthquake in Japan in March. Hosted by Mikimoto, the event took place on June 23.

Among the 50 guests who attended the evening, which included a sake tasting, were Natori and Company president and long-time ACC Trustee Josie Cruz Natori, the internationally renowned Indian painter Natvar Bhavsar and Vicky Schade, General Manager at Mikimoto, New York. Both Ms. Natori and Ms. Schade spoke about the ACC’s new program. The guests also included many of the organization’s Trustees and friends. Rick Smith, owner of SAKAYA sake shop, provided the four different varieties of sake.
Robert Easton, Scisive Consulting, ACC Trustee Josie Cruz Natori, and Mrs. Kazuko Kubo
Mikimoto has donated 15% of all sales to ACC friends between June 23-July 7 to benefit the restoration and reconstruction of the cultural areas, materials and artworks destroyed by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

The Asian Cultural Council has provided grants to enable cultural exchange between the U.S. and the countries of Asia, and within Asia to nearly 6,000 artists, scholars and arts and cultural administrators and institutions since the organization’s founding by John D. Rockefeller 3rd in 1963. ACC presently provides almost $1.5 million annually to about 100 grantees each year.

Sports stars, TV and radio personalities and the East Enders turned out for the Ann Liguori Foundation Annual Dinner Dance at Duck Walk Vineyards in Water Mill hosted by Ann Liguori last Friday. The dinner came after the Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic, which was sold out at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton. Proceeds from both events benefit the American Cancer Society and Healthy Children, Healthy Futures, teaching young people about good nutrition and fitness for over-all good health benefits.

Live entertainment was provided by award winning singer-songwriter Dillon Dixon. The event’s extremely hard working committee packed the house, filled the raffle tables with elegant gifts and bid heavily on the live auction items.
