A week ago, last Thursday, PBS-13 celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a star-studded gala at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.  They were celebrating five decades of remarkable programming, innovation in public media and invaluable contributions to the New York community.

The evening also honored individuals who have played a vital role in the institution’s success. Following a special cocktail reception for the honorees, guests attended the taping of an upcoming Great Performances special, with appearances and performances by Julie Andrews, Michael Bublé, Elina Garanca, Josh Groban, Audra McDonald, Peter Martins and members of the New York City Ballet, and Itzhak Perlman.

The award-winning series, the longest-running performing arts program on television, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary during 2013, and the special will air in the spring in celebration of that anniversary.

Guests of honor included Rosalind P. Walter, recognized for exceptional commitment and partnership in creating the best of public television, and William M. Ellinghaus, Henry R. Kravis and Steven Rattner, all distinguished former Chairmen of THIRTEEN, who were honored for their transformative leadership spanning over three decades of THIRTEEN’s history.
