Holiday dinners and doers

Last Wednesday, December 10th, Kim Kardashian West as she now calls herself, came to down to attend ACRIA’s 19th annual holiday dinner and to give an award to photographer Bruce Weber. Weber and Larry Kramer, playwright and AIDS activist were the evening’s awardees. Kramer’s award was presented to him by Joel Grey. Kramer’s award was “The Artist Ending AIDS” award. Benn Northover and Judith Light read from Kramer’s works.

More than 120 guests came to jingle and mingle with the NYC Mission Society's Junior Society on Tuesday, December 2nd at a holiday party at Pilotage Fun & Hobby in Manhattan to benefit the nonprofit's annual toy drive for underserved children.

The event was organized by Junior Society co-founders Brooke Laing and Cole Rumbough, as well as members Allison Ecung, Angelena Brack, Antonella Lemos, Liz Shafiroff, Natasha Das, and Taylor Burns. In addition to Pilotage, event sponsors were Insomnia Cookies, Apropo, and Mini Goodiez.

"We are extremely grateful for our Junior Society members, who annually display the spirit of the season by caring and sharing," said Elsie McCabe Thompson, President of the NYC Mission Society. "The Junior Society, as well as others who have contributed to our annual toy drive, recognize that so many children in our city would welcome our support and special gifts this time of year."

Toys collected at the midtown event will be added to other seasonal toy donations made to the NYC Mission Society, which distributes wrapped gifts to 1,500 children in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx this December.

Last Thursday night, the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation and Elin and Michael Nierenberg hosted “Collaborating for a Cure,” the 17th Annual benefit dinner and auction at Cipriani Wall Street.

They honored Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, fashion designers and founders of Cushnie et Ochs. Chris Wragge, co-anchor of CBS 2 News This Morning, emceed the evening and Ziggy Marley appeared as Special Musical Guest.

The evening which was attended by more than 1200 corporate executives, board members and their guests, has raised millions over the years to support the Foundation’s research efforts to find a cure.

The Royal Oak Foundation celebrated their 17th annual Timeless Design Award at the Essex House. More than 200 attended the event to present Viscount Linley of Nymans with the Timeless Design Award and the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) with the Heritage Award.

Royal Oak Foundation Director Tracy Williamson Dart and supporter Charlotte Moss were the event co-chairs. Proceeds support Royal Oak's conservation and education mission as the American partner of the National Trust of England, Wales and Northern Ireland while sending American scholars to the UK to study gardening, architecture and decorative arts.

Royal Oak honored Lord Linley (David Armstrong-Jones), who attended with Lady Linley (Serena Armstrong-Jones) for his accomplishments in furniture and decorative arts design, citing his passion for craftsmanship and the history of design. The son of HRH Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon, he launched his first LINLEY Collection in 1985. He became Chairman of Christie's UK in 2006. Mark Ferguson, ICAA's Chairman, accepted the Heritage Award in recognition of the organization's work in advancing the Classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts.
