|In the spirit of giving amid the consumer frenzy, Miracle on Madison Avenue has been the cherished holiday shopping tradition on the Upper East Side for 29 years. 80 the world's premiere flagship boutiques and businesses on Madison Avenue between 57th and 86th Streets donated 20% of the sales, up to $15,000 per store, to The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center pediatric initiatives. Victorian dressed holiday carolers, The Fabulous Sezziwigs, warmed shopper's spirits, tempting refreshments were served, and the warm glow of goodwill was shared by all.|
|"Miracle Ambassador" Sandra Lee, Multi-Emmy® award winner; Lavinia Branca Snyder, President of The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK); MSK Committee Members Muffie Potter Aston, Nina Carbone, Leslie Coleman, Judy Cox, Caroline Los Arcos, Amanda Meigher, Jennifer Oken, Elizabeth Pyne, and Caryn Zucker along with Matthew A. Bauer, President of Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) greeted holiday shoppers as "Miracle Hosts", in participating boutiques including Alice & Olivia, Anne Fontaine, Apple, De Grisogono, Etro, Kate Spade, Lalique, Michael Kors, Morgenthal Frederics, Mulberry, Paul Morelli, Reinstein Ross, Stuart Weitzman, and Tory Burch.|
|This will be the fourth year that Miracle on Madison Avenue has raised funds targeted to the pediatric initiatives of The Society of MSK, a volunteer organization that works to ensure the well being of patients; raise funds for cancer research and treatment; and provide public education on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer. Last year, $160,000 was raised for The Society of MSK in a single day of shopping. The event was organized by the Madison Avenue BID.|
|On December 5, The Lerner Children's Pavilion at Hospital for Special Surgery hosted their 9th Annual Big Apple Circus Benefit. Guests and their children enjoyed a Fun Festival including face painting, juggling, a stilt walker, caricaturists, and a photo booth prior to the Big Apple Circus performance. The event raised $810,000 for pediatric care and research.|
|On November 18, the Orthopaedic Foundation, founded by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Kevin Plancher, celebrated its 11th Anniversary Gala at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The event, which raised $700,000, honored Jim Calhoun, Basketball Hall of Famer, Edward V. Craig, MD, internationally renowned Shoulder Surgeon, Kristine Lilly, World Cup Champion and U.S. Soccer Olympian, Gerardo Mato, CEO of HSBC’s Global Banking for the Americas, Larry Ruvo, Chairman Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and Senior Managing Director of Southern Wines & Spirits of Nevada, and Chris Melendez, U.S. Army Sergeant 4th Infantry, Purple Heart Combat Amputee, Iraq War Veteran, Wounded Warrior and TNA Impact Wrestling Superstar who brought the crowd to their feet as he was honored with “Spirit of An Active Lifestyle Award.”|
|Marc Cohn and Judy Collins performed, each singing before the audience joined them in “Amazing Grace” to honor the fallen in Paris. Sara Walsh, ESPN’S Emmy winning anchor, served as Emcee, The evening’s bone-healthy menu was developed by renowned Celebrity Chefs Emeril Lagasse and Costas Spiliadis of Milos Restaurant and The Plaza Hotel’s Executive Chef Jack Higgins.
